Poured a deep amber, obviously no head. The nose was more sugary and light than expected. Taste was a bit oily, almost like syrup... some cask booze, bourbon/ tennessee whiskey, not as much as I would have liked and/or expected. Reminded me of maple syrup actually... not a good thing. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 28, 2009 22oz. bottle. Sweet, toffeeish aroma, lightly fruity, roasty, earthy and peaty with suggestions of raisin and carrot(?). Dark ruddy amber color with a slight, lasting head. Flavor is fairly mild for the style, with more peat and toffee sweetness, some very mild bitterness and loamy earth on the finish, along with lingering suggestions of herbs, tea leaves. Surprisingly thin mouthfeel, effervescence is low, with a medium body. Not nearly as big or rich as expected, really a pretty easy-going example. curly (598), Nashville, Tennessee, USA

Caramel, toffee, biscuits, malt on the nose. Malty and sweet with some biscuit on the finish and a good amount of sneaky warming alcohol that shows up later than expected.

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 10, 2009 poured out burnt amber with a tannish beige head that was a little thin and fell rather fast. it has a pretty cloudy semi light brown color body to it. the aromas are somewhat burnt malt, toffee, green apples and cabbage, some alcohol, and nuts. the mouthfeel is a little rough, not to bad though, moderate amount of carbonation. i taste malts and more malts, what kind? i do not know but it is very satisfying. not to sweet and nutty with a nice aftertaste that lingers for a little while. not to complex of a scotch ale, but very enjoyable and not heavy on the palate. oh yea, it does have some lacing, but slides right down the walls of the glass as soon as i tilt back. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 8, 2009 Serving: 22 oz. bottle.
Appearance: Clear, light amber color with a small, light tan head. Okay head retention, but no lacing.
Aroma: Lighter nose with notes of earth, caramel, some dough notes, and a little roasted malt.
Flavor: Lighter than I was expecting as well. A little earthy peat, some caramel, some toast and nut notes. The alcohol remained well hidden.
Palate: Medium carbonation with a medium mouthfeel and a medium, malty finish.
Overall: Not as rich and full bodied as they might have you think. I thought it was middle of the road and not all that satisfying. I was left looking for more. Take it or leave it.
