| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 17, 2009 22 oz. bottle. Pours a copper/amber with a thin white head. Has that odd sort of spicy, sort of sweet aroma that seems to characterize scotch ales. Taste is the same, sweet but malty with a crisp, alcohol infused body. I’ve always been ambivalent about scotch ales. Something about them intrigues me, while never totally blowing me away and this brew is the same.

I’m not sure that I would make a habit of this, however... it’s good, but just not what I want from a beer at this point in time. Would it be fair to describe this as a malty session beer with extra alcohol?
I wasn’t careful when I poured it, so there may have been some trub on the bottom of the bottle that got stirred up a little, as it is hazy in my glass. No head to speak of, and the carbonation seems to be less than most store beer I can recall.
Not a bad beer, but I am in a phase where I like more hop flavor. emagana (12), California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 13, 2009 Pours a a dark red hazy. Smells of toffey and syryp sweetness. Starts off with a hint of clover honey and turns into a roasted caramel. i never had this style so i have nothing to compare it too. Lingering alcohol flavor sort off fake and altered by chemical. Not a big fan. I think aging this one on some oak will do it wonders. now i want to go and try more to compare. swoopjones (1917), Buffalo, New York, USA

Okay. Has its moments but lacks overall impact. Pleasant. Cask at Coles, Buffalo CUJO (367), Brooklyn, New York, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 1, 2009 RnH: cask: really very disappointed here... love this style and this brew was a weak representation. Poured a deep amber, obviously no head. The nose was more sugary and light than expected. Taste was a bit oily, almost like syrup... some cask booze, bourbon/ tennessee whiskey, not as much as I would have liked and/or expected. Reminded me of maple syrup actually... not a good thing. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 28, 2009 22oz. bottle. Sweet, toffeeish aroma, lightly fruity, roasty, earthy and peaty with suggestions of raisin and carrot(?). Dark ruddy amber color with a slight, lasting head. Flavor is fairly mild for the style, with more peat and toffee sweetness, some very mild bitterness and loamy earth on the finish, along with lingering suggestions of herbs, tea leaves. Surprisingly thin mouthfeel, effervescence is low, with a medium body. Not nearly as big or rich as expected, really a pretty easy-going example. curly (646), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
