A nice bitterness plays out here as I don’t condider this to be on the sweet side. Pine, grapefruit, and citrus hops are present, as well as a small malt presence. I also get a hint of tea flavor. Good beer for sure. Beardface (1036), Eugene, Oregon, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 20, 2009 On tap at the brewpub. Deep amber pour with a two finger fatty head of foam. Ridiculous aroma of both hefty citrus hops (orange, pineapple, grapefruit), and also a nice caramel element. Very smooth on the palate with a non-cloying sweetness of pineapple and caramel sugar, followed up by a big but not overwhelming pine hop bite and then fading into a smooth finish. It’s no Hopsickle, but is more of a bang for your buck at this point. 17thfloor (1511), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 19, 2009 Pours a murky dull orange brown with a medium white dense foam on top. Great fresh hop aroma, lots of citrus and resin, sugary toasted pineapple, sweet and peppery. First taste is over super sugary juicy pineapple quickly followed by super bitter resiny pine and lightly toasted malts. Very sweet and sugary. Loads of pine needles. Reminds me slightly of Avery’s double IPA. Medium/full bodied, sugary, with smooth sharp carbonation. Full of flavor but definitely unrefined. puggy211 (596), cordova, Tennessee, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Feb 17, 2009 22oz bottle into a Snifter glass. Pours a very see through yellow golden color with a very thin white head. The aroma perfume is very sweetly and almost overly malty (which I do enjoy) with hints of a citrusy background with hops tossed up in the bunch. The flavor is actually much smoother than I imagined it would be. A very citrusy malt start comes through, and coats the palate quite well. It then moves into more of a bitter hop finish that is not all too overpowering like some IPA’s in general. The malt comes back after the finish. I really enjoyed this one. A very well balanced and not overly hopped DIPA. Bier brauen (217), Bremerton, Washington, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Feb 15, 2009 Floral and grassy hop aroma. Small head, with some lacing. Resiny, chewy, with pine and somewhat bitter finish. I love DIPAs! ceffalo (38), , Texas, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 13, 2009 Pours a dark amber with a minimally bubbly head. Hoppy in the nose.
Citrus and hops with a bitter follow through. A hint of pine. A somewhat aggressive flavor. Not amazing, but better than good. TheRealBastard (144), The-No, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 9, 2009 22oz’r. Pours hazy amber color with creamy egg shell colored head. Extremely bitter and somewhat dry. I’ll take the hopsickle anyday over this. Good, but not great. LooseCannon (936), Norfolk, Virginia, USA
