| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 19, 2008 Cloudy auburn color, good carbonation, lingering white head with nice lacing. Aroma is piney, grapefruit, caramel malt, and just a bit of dough. The flavor is bitter, smooth and full of rich caramel malt complexity. Creamy texture, excellent IIPA. kenb (1100), Oregon, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 17, 2008 22 oz bottle via BA-SS-07 (thanks!). Pours a semi-clear amber with a large beige head. The nose is floral and citrus hops with a bit of fresh orange taking center stage. The taste starts and ends with dry pine, and sandwiched in between there is a lot of grapefruit, orange-rind, and toffee. Dry piney finish and somewhat metallic aftertaste. Body is light/medium, carbonation is moderate. Has mellow fruity aroma. On the first sip I experienced an orange fruitiness that was soon overwhelmed by an orange zest like bitterness - very potent, lingering on the tongue. This is not very sweet and I found the bitterness to be too overwhelming for my taste. This is a definitely a beer for those who appreciate extreme hop bitterness. treadyroc (112), St. Leonard, Maryland, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 11, 2008 Pours a clear copper-y color which quickly settles to a small, frothy head. Initial bitterness followed by flowery hops, but not too much so. Finishes with the bitter again, which seems to linger just a tad too long. Overall, though, very clean, & _very_ well balanced. Probably the best balanced double IPA I’ve had. heemer77 (4311), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 10, 2008 Another unbalanced hop bomb. Yee ha. The body was medium copper with a khaki head. The aroma was strong grapefruit with some tobacco and bread crust. The taste was woody and dry with plenty of grapefruit. This was also a little grassy. Little malt to balance out the hops. One dimensional and boring. folkdancin (5), Fairborn, Ohio, USA does not count | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 9, 2008 This is a good(not great) IPA expecially for the price. Pours a burnt orange with a very small white head. Has a nice earthy and citris hop aroma, . this stands true on the palate wit the true bitterness present at the finish. The carmal malt is there but could use a little more balance. Huge resiny, piney, flavor, little malt backbone. Biscuit notes in finish, but of course are overwhelmed by hops. Could use more to balance. Hop aroma was subdued, and not close to the better examples of the style.
