Commercial Description:
Our Moylander Double IPA is fat and resiny, with aggressive and excessive hops swinging on an enormous malt backbone like naughty monkeys on a vine. Double malt, double hops - do the math, it's academic.

Bottled. Small head, offwhite, turns into a ring and laces a bit. Cloudy, honey-colored body. Lots of hops, flowers, and honey on the aroma for a nice balanced aroma. Lots of fruit in there as well, peach, apricot, and citrus. A little bit of yeast, a malty-dough aroma. Caramel. Mouth is medium with light, foamy carbonation and a nice, lightly-dry finish. Where’s the alcohol!? Hiding in the malts so far--we’ll see as she warms up--which is the best place to put it. I taste honey, flowers, honey-comb, peach, apricot, and a strong aftertaste of apricot//grapefruit rind//light pine. Sugary sweet in there too. Definitely hop-dominated, but lacking the heavy, rich malts that would make me love this. A light malt profile; a beautifully blended hop-profile that doesn’t really scream a single element too loudly. It’s well done, but I don’t really like it because it tastes light and bitter without anything special or excellent about it. 8.5% ABV in such a light beer is pretty excellent. Feel that. This could easily pass for a 5-6% flavor-wise. While I think this is better crafted than hopsickle, I’d rather have the hopsickle.

In short: Superior IIPA, very sweet and very bitter.
How: Montreal-crew sour-beer tasting. Out of theme beer at end of session. Bottle, about 4 months old.
The look: Cloudy orange-golden body topped by a small off-white head
In long: Note is very citrusy and sweet. In mouth the hops take a turn in the pine-tree direction without loosing their citrus flavour. The intense resinous bitterness is actually nicely balanced by a rather heavy malt profile. Malt sweetness reminded me of my mother’s Sucre à la Crème. Actually many things of that beer reminded me of my mother, it’s sweet, it’s rather bitter, it doesn’t age gracefully, it’s cheap and it doesn’t give much head (or so did my father tell me).

This is a decent IIPA...but very unbalanced. Aroma of grapefruit and a somewhat flowery touch. Pour was a hazy burnt orange with a one finger off white head. Taste was mouth caving bitter. All pine and citrusy hops but barely any malt to balance it out. You can detect it, but not enough. There is a good bit of carbonation in this one and that keeps it from being hot and syrupy. This is a hard style to nail, and they did a good job.

True copper color, clear clarity, with a thin off white head. Piney hops, grilled pineapple, grapefruit, sugar cookies, and fresh leather aromas. A touch of spice in the nose as well, carribean jerk or straight black pepper. A full bodied DIPA thats sticky and bitter on the tongue. Know what your getting yourself into when you drink this beer. A very unique, excellent DIPA.

22oz bottle. pours clear orange with white head. nose has some sweet alcohol notes and grassy hop notes. flavor is pretty sweet and bland, some bitterness, caramel malt base with piney, unrefined resiney taste. just not a flavorful, fun, refined IIPA. alcohol warmth for sure. this doesn’t go down easy. there is a lot better IIPAs out there.

My Bottom Line:
Piney, sandy hoppiness prevails from aroma to aftertaste in this well-structured and able-bodied Double IPA.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the deep amber.
-The most attractive dry-hopped aroma is perhaps signed Simcoe?
-Biscuity caramel maltiness builds a healthy body to project that volubile hoppiness to soaring heights.
-The finishing bitterness is resinous and piney, forcing you to take another sip.
-Carbonation is relaxed and helps drinkability.

Bottle.

Pours a clear copper with gold edges with light tan head and decent lacing. The aroma has big grapefruit hops, pine hops and sweet caramel malts. The taste is much like the aroma with a bold influx of sweet malts mixed with roasted malts and then a wave of both grapefruit and pine hop bitterness. Those notes mix and create an orange hard candy flavor steeped in grassiness. Toward the finish the sweet malts and lightly roasted malts well up again before the grapefruit hop and pine hop bitterness mixed with mild sweet hop flavor take over and ride into the aftertaste. Solid IIPA.

The Dan Journal #118. 22oz bottle. Tasted 10/18/07. Along side the Hopsickle. So this won the silver at the 2007 GABF? Well done! Hazy with a golden hue. Layer of off white head. Citrus and cinnamon in the nose. Alcohol burn. Full bodied with a big acidity. Milder than the Hopsickle. Sticky brew. Citrus bitterness, but not as pronounced. Longer flavor. Spicier and more acidic. Milder palate yet harsher less rounded than the Hopsickle.
