The aroma has big grapefruit hops, pine hops and sweet caramel malts. The taste is much like the aroma with a bold influx of sweet malts mixed with roasted malts and then a wave of both grapefruit and pine hop bitterness. Those notes mix and create an orange hard candy flavor steeped in grassiness. Toward the finish the sweet malts and lightly roasted malts well up again before the grapefruit hop and pine hop bitterness mixed with mild sweet hop flavor take over and ride into the aftertaste. Solid IIPA. sneagrams3 (1759), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 8, 2007 The Dan Journal #118. 22oz bottle. Tasted 10/18/07. Along side the Hopsickle. So this won the silver at the 2007 GABF? Well done! Hazy with a golden hue. Layer of off white head. Citrus and cinnamon in the nose. Alcohol burn. Full bodied with a big acidity. Milder than the Hopsickle. Sticky brew. Citrus bitterness, but not as pronounced. Longer flavor. Spicier and more acidic. Milder palate yet harsher less rounded than the Hopsickle. ryan (1781), Beltsville, Maryland, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Nov 2, 2007 Hazy amber body with a small white head. The nose is sweet caramel malts and citrus hops with notes of grapefruit, pine and tangerine. The flavor is moderately sweet with cotton candy and lots of caramel and tea from the crystal malts. Moderately bitter citrus hops presence that is slightly astringent with grapefruit, pine and apricot. Medium/full body is sticky and chewy with moderate carbonation. Another disappointing, overly sweet "West Coast IPA" with way too much crystal malt. I realize that they can’t all be Pliny the Elder, but come on; Why do all the rest have to be Stone 10th? bramblez (3), USA does not count | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 31, 2007 Great aroma, hopheads rejoice! There are lots of low hop notes, less of the higher piney. The taste finished somewhat bitter, but that nicely balances the malt. xarcadia (10), USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 31, 2007 It smelled so good I didn’t even want to taste it! Fruity and a bit floral. The taste is a bit harsh. I NEVER think beers are bitter, but this one is. After a few sips it grows on you though, and becomes smoother. decaturstevo (2010), decatur, Tennessee, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 27, 2007 A hazed orange pour with a gooy white head and lace. An aroma of mucho hops. A very good hop malt balance on the flavor. Mouthfeel and carbonation are very good. This is a very good beer. mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 26, 2007 Pours a cloudy burnt orange, with a small white head. Smells of big monster hops, big grapefruit citrus, and some definite floral characters too. Good nose. Huge, bitter hops atack the palate right away, with some good bitterness left in the finish and aftertaste. Not as big of a malt presence as other double IPA’s Ive had, but there was some there. the hops were just pounding the whole way through prety much. Nice double. Nephilium (557), Ohio, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 25, 2007 Nice strong pine aroma, pours a clear golden-amber with a thin slightly off-white head. Strong pine hop character, with a bit of citrus and bitterness in the finish. Alcohol is very well hidden. This is a very solid IIPA.
