Commercial Description:
Our Moylander Double IPA is fat and resiny, with aggressive and excessive hops swinging on an enormous malt backbone like naughty monkeys on a vine. Double malt, double hops - do the math, it's academic.

Pours a dark orange color with a half finger thick light orange head to it. Aroma is light of hops and sweetness. Some pine notes enter the nose but not overbearingly so. Taste is a complete 180 from the aroma, wow! The sweetness detected in the aroma is nearly gone just barley there due to the in your face slam of hops from this brew. Seriously, this is one bitter ass IIPA. This doesn’t treat you nicely like some IIPA’s and give you a pleasant citrus grapefruit taste and then the bitterness. Oh no, this baby is oily and resiny full of pine and hardcore bitterness. I’ve had some IIPA’s that claim 100+ IBU’s that have been no where near this agressive. This is great stuff and a full assault on your taste buds. Very unbalanced IIPA just as it was meant to be!

Bottle, courtesy of IrishBoy. The pour yielded a rich amber color, very generous initial white head, excellent lacing, solid appearance. The aroma was malty, caramel, fruity ester type notes, a touch of pine, but nothing overly bitter/hoppy. The flavor was bready, fruity esters, pineapples, finishing with a very strong penetrating bitterness, citrus rinds, resinous piney, firm bitterness, though not all that pleasing as several other examples of the style (tonite alone: Manalishi and Lake Erie Monster). Mouthfeel was moderate to full bodied, sharp. Thanks, Richard!

bomber shared by someone at Mullman’s gathering 08.18.07. Light orange in color with a small to medium lasting off white head with nice lacing. Aroma is really nice- very fruity, grapefruit, and some mango- and peach. malty in the background, but the aroma is almost all citrus hops. Taste is also alot of sticky fruity hops- orange, peach, light grapefruit, with a moderate piney bitterness. Base malt and specialty grains provide a nice backbone without being overly sweet- this is definitely a hop showcase and I enjoyed every sip.

Bomber. Pours surprisingly pale. Hazy yellow color with a decent sized white head that doesn’t stick around too long. Bubbles on the head are fat as hell. Balanced aroma. Strong hops with a very noticeable malt background. Hard to pick out the hop characteristics of this one. I can smell them but cannot really identify them. Weird. Toasty, slightly burnt malt flavor with some breadiness and hop bitterness. Interesting taste. Medium to thin bodied. Smooth and tingly. This is a good beer that is unfortunately completely overshadowed by its older brother, Hopsickle. That beer is similar but better to this in every way. Without trying that one first I’m sure I would have liked this more but from now on I’ll just pay the extra dollar and get that one instead. Sorry Moylander.

Bomber.

Dang, another superb IIPA from Moylans. This one is really, really good. I’m not sure it quite tops Hopsickle, but I’ll need to check that head to head just to be sure. The aroma is a huge blast of citrus juice with a bit of pine and the beer pours a nice hazy orange with a pretty white head. Once again Moylans avoids the sweet sticky IIPA trap and delivers a lovely dry flavor, malts present for backup but never over the top, the hops coming through full and robust but not overly aggressive - just delicious.

I enjoyed this one greatly. I’m looking forward to that head-to-head with Hopsickle. Bonus style points (but not rating score) for the bottle-side copy: "with aggressive and excessive hops swinging on an enormous malt backbone like naughty monkeys on a vine."

Grapefruit aroma, thin head, golden color, and steady light carbonation. The initial burnt caramel malt backbone is quickly attacked by the sharp, resiny hops and they fight for yr attention through the finish. Another knockout from Moylans.
