Goodgrief (1013), Middletown, Delaware, USA Apr 14, 2008 Pour was cloudy orange with nice head and lacing. Very weak aroma of citrus. Flavor was ripe citrus, sweet with a moderate hop finish. Nothing really extraordinary, but not bad sipping beer either. Got more bitter as it warmed, but still not over the top.
lonelybeergeek (28), Tempe, Arizona, USA Aug 15, 2008 This beer has long been a favorite of mine, but I have not had one in probably two years. In fact, I haven’t reviewed anything in about that long. I’m enjoying one now, a bomber, by myself. The beer pours a cool orange copper with a thin, white, lacy head. Aroma is light pine and tangerine. I love the bottle’s description of the taste as "fat and resiny." It is certainly that. Indeed, it reminds me of a bitter tree sap. Malt balances the massive hops nicely, if not completely. Alcohol is hidden well. I have stayed away from these intensely hoppy beers lately (I guess everyone has had to somewhat), but this beer reminds me of what I love about them. The flavor lingers for minutes on the palate and pretty much ruins my tastebuds for the rest of the night. Nice brew. bp (275), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 15, 2008 Bottle: pours a hazy orange with a frothy white head, hoppy, pine and citrus aroma, taste is very hoppy and piney...mostly hops. I am a big fan of DIPAs but I prefer most of my DIPAs to have some balance...this one doesn’t have any balance. It’s not bad, just not what I look for. EHopper (100), Minnesota, USA Aug 12, 2008 Great orange color and bright, enticing aroma of pine, grapefruit, and as my daughter suggests, oriental ramen, I suppose from the malt. Flavor is a very fresh and intense version of the aroma with an incredible bitter finish. One to get and share. waolsen (950), Littleton, Colorado, USA Aug 11, 2008 bottle. copper pour with thin lasting head. lacinging. huge piney hops and sweet malts in aroma. fresh, earthy, resiny hops, exteme welcomed bitterness. nice caramel malt backbone. great hop bomb. AmazonMatt (260), Panama Aug 9, 2008 Wow....totally over rated. Not very good at all. Oversweet and surupy on the fore-palate, the malt is much too heavy. So is the alcohol. I completely agree with chronictonic that this is a trend in "extreme" beers that seems to try to make barleywines out of double IPAs. My wife, Quillaraymi said it best: "I like high alcohol beers, but I don’t want to taste the alcohol. Also, where is the character in the hops, where is the medley of pine spruce, citrus, freshness...this is anti-fresh. Now, I did buy in Ohio, so maybe it doesn’t travel well but I doubt it...
