Dec 6, 2006 pours a cloudy dark brown, with copper highlights. I detected some broccoli and mushrooms in the aroma instead of the usual barley wine aromas. Maybe something in my glass wasn’t right...Anyway, the flavor was some brown sugar, caramel, sweet butterscotch, and rye. Whiskey and roast in the finish. A fairly thick beer, but not that creamy. Became hot fairly quick. Flavors could have blended better, but overall this was decent enough. Messed up aroma though...

Dec 4, 2006 Cloudy deep copper with small tan head. Nose is musty and sweet with a hint of raisins, a small amount of hops comes through. Slick, silky mouthfeel. Taste is burnt molasses with a nice bitter hop finish.

Dec 3, 2006 Spring 2006 bottle: Dull amber pour with a frothy head that settles into a thin film on top. The nose is initially earthy and pungent, but as it sits it opens up with light notes of raspberry. Surprising lack of hops. The creamy mouthfeel matches the meaty body. Citric hops lead the charge, with a nice backing of caramel malts. Overripe prunes and some complexity. The finish warms the stomach nicely. This was nice to try, but I won’t search it out again.

Dec 3, 2006 Very malty, sweet beer, both in aroma and flavor. Dark reddish, copper pour. Small-bubbled head that sticks around longer than average for a barley wine. Lots of lacing. Sugary aroma with notes of caramel and toffee and yeast. The flavor reveals hops, starting extremely sweet (caramel and pineapple) and ending with a bitter bite. Full body with smooth, creamy texture. Moderately long finish that leaves a bitter, acidic and peppery taste.

Nov 28, 2006 Bottle from cbkschubert. Thanks Craig. Very malty aroma and brown translucent look with thin head. Decent flavor that was not as hoppy as I expected. Very malty tones and smooth. Very little alcohol burn. Pretty good BW.
