| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Sep 5, 2006 Cloudy mahogany body with little head. Aroma is malty with significant alcohol. Flavor is intense, plenty of hops there but mostly a rich caramely maltiness. Lots of alcohol warmth. The finish is sticky and bitter. A big, flavorful beer. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 1, 2006 Pours deep mohagany w/ a medium semi creamy froth. First aroma from bottle was cotton candy. Aroma from glass is sweet malt, grapefruit rind w/ slight biscuits. Full nectar w/ soft residual effers. Possesses a fresh, semi sweetness w/ leather, tobacco, caramel candy, cocoa, cherries, w/ a zesty orange thing going on. It’s malty alright but the flavor is muted and a little weak on the palate. Theres a hop on the finish pushing a sharp bittering that provides stability to it’s equalibrium. Overall: This brew will get the job done at 10% and not knowing it. Like a bat to the head in a dark alley. The complexities are there but the body/palate left me hangin’. It wasn’t chewy enough. For a barley wine I expected more umph. It’s the best value barley wine at $4.99 for a 22 ozzy. nolankowal (855), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Aug 19, 2006 Pours a dense brownish red with a yellowed tan colored head that fades to a pleasant film. The aroma is sweet and malty, brown sugar, coffee, a bit of smoke and some dark candied fruits. The flavor gets all of these notes, a super malty beer to say the least...no real hoppiness to speak of, this one is rich, sweet, a bit smokey, a bit bitter and clean. Smooth carbonation over the tounge coupled with a rich body makes this one go down easy, especially since the booze is well hidden among the rich flavors of this brew. I imagine this would be perfect for those colder months. BitchesBrew (711), Oakland, California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 16, 2006 Pours a cloudy brown color, with a dense, coffee colored head. Nice aroma of caramel and subtle hops. Malty, sweet flavors give way to assertive, citrusy hops. Complex flavors are not too hop-centered, which I think I prefer in terms of barley wines. A very nice beer. beervana (781), Libertyville, Illinois, USA

Poured clear brown with small off-white head. Some white particulates. No discernable carbonation. No freshness date. Fruity caramel aroma. Full bodied ale that starts with moderate malt sweetness and fruity (plum?)/caramel/hop flavors. Finished with light hop bitterness. Slight metallic aftertaste. Slighly thick, like light maple syrup. Massive malt foundation. Rich, smooth, and delicious, this is a delicious barleywine. Tmoney99 (4800), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA

Poured hazy brown with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Heavy toasted caramel malt aroma. Medium to full body with a sticky texture. Medium sweet flavor with a medium bitter sweet finish of moderate duration. I shared this with my cigar buddies. GonZoBeeR (2163), ste-Eulalie, Quebec, Canada
