22oz bottle from Bev Mo in La Mesa. Pours a deep cloudy brown with a big heavy off white head. Aroma was very malty with some dark fruit such as raisens and plums. Same goes for the flavor as well. A great barley wine!!

Thanks to KP for sharing this down at the Five Seasons. Bottle was supposed to be a 2004, like Larry said. Pour is deep amber cloudy with a thin offf white head and streaky lacing. Aroma was oxidized to the point where it smelled more like soy sauce than anything. A bit of salt, stale malts, sweetness and caramel also found in the aroma. Flavor is slightly sweet, mild hoppiness, some citrus, more soy and finishes with a bit of astringency. Despite all the flaws mentioned, I still enjoyed this beer. Nice carbonation and a relatively smooth finish.

Poured a hazy dark amber color with a thin off-white head. Aroma of aged malt and sweet light fruit. Mild oxidation. Sweet malt flavor with some dark fruit. Aged malt. Semi-dry finish. Silky mouthfeel. I believe this was a 2004.

The pour is a deep reddish brown with a huge, three-fingered, head. The head recedes slowly and remnants remain throughout along with a thick lacing that coats the glass. The aroma had hints of citrus, pine, and caramel. The balance between the hops and the malt is very good. A smooth finish on the palate is accompanied by a hoppish bitterness that lingers ever so slightly.

Reddish brown body with a fairly large head. Aroma had pine, grapefruit, citrus, caramel, light alcohol. Very interesting to drink though. A light syrupy texture and a smooth mouthfeel made this dangerously drinkable. I wish the flavor and aroma offered more though. I think this is the only 5/5 palate I’ve given a BW.

Christ another old rating. I have had many of these Heavy on the malts, sweet and syrupy vs a lot of hops. This was caramelly and malty but I was hoping for some hops and but it was a bit to sweet for me. Still darn tasty.

Bomber bottle served in my Stone IRS snifter: Hazed dark coppery hue with a collapsed frothy head and outstanding lace.
The aroma has notes of heavy-handed caramel and smoked malts along with a moderate sample of both grassy and piney hops. Some light pepper and clove detected as well. There is a slight "band-aid" off aroma but nothing so bad to keep me for enjoying the vapors.
The taste is a smooth blend of rich malts, subdued dark fruit and finishing mild hop bitterness. Really enjoyable taste profiles in complete balance with no one-thing dominant. I detected some undertones of smoke, anise, black pepper, thistle, and even a note of pumpernickel bread. NICE!!
The mouth feel is wonderfully rich and oily yet it never seems to go over the top. Just done right to match the overall viscosity of the brew.

I am a sucker for a balanced Barleywine and this fits the bill perfectly. I am sure I am overrating it, but at this moment in time it purely ROCKS!

22 oz bottle. Poured a dark copper color tinted with a little red. Huge, long lasting tan head. Nose of hops, malts, and some fruit. Wonderful on the tongue, and sort of like 10-40 motor oil going down. Alcohol was well masked. This is a nice rich, nicely flavored, and very drinkable ale.
