Commercial Description:
Chocolate truffles, cocoa, espresso coffee, burnt currants, the sweetness of a sherry - all come to mind when enjoying an Imperial Stout. A rich porter of English origin brewed to withstand the long voyage from London to Czarist Russia. The classic "Winter Warmer". Big, Strong, Malty Stout.

Black. Beige head. Cigarr and vanilla en masse, but not much more. Nice but not very complex.

Dark brown color, small brownish head. Coffee-licorice aroma. Soft palate. A bit burned malts, coffee (Jawa) and licorice. Lingering licorice in the aftertaste. Tasty.

Aroma is rich and smoky with a molasses undertone and hints of coffee and unsweetened chocolate. It pours a nearly black sable with a thick, fine-bubbled, fairly persistent cinnamon-tan head. Flavor is smoky and malty with hints of coffee, molasses and unsweetened chocolate, just a teensy sweet and just a teensy bitter. Texture is smooth, tingly, just a bit thinner than I expected but still quite good. Recommended.

What this brew lacks in aroma, it makes up for in flavour. The pour is strong coffee coloured, leaving a nice oily finish on the snifter. Warm flavours of espresso, dark caramel, bitersweet cocoa, and a hoppy finish make this a quaffable potion worthy of Russian aristocracy.

From a 750 ml bottle. Not a lot of aroma, but my sniffer’s not that good anyway. Pours almost black with pale brown head. Low carbonation. Flavor is big, strong, rich and just a bit sweet. Evokes chocolate and coffee. Nice.
