Commercial Description:
Chocolate truffles, cocoa, espresso coffee, burnt currants, the sweetness of a sherry - all come to mind when enjoying an Imperial Stout. A rich porter of English origin brewed to withstand the long voyage from London to Czarist Russia. The classic "Winter Warmer". Big, Strong, Malty Stout.

Sampled at Defiant. Dark brown in color, almost black with ruby highlights at the bottom of the tulip taster glass I was using, not the best appearance. Aroma is alot of sherry- molasses, and dark fruits, some oxidation, with chocolate and some light coffee. Taste is chocolate, with oxidized malts, mainly sherry/dark fruit flavors with the roast becoming stronger in the finish. Hop bitterness is also strong in the finish. The body was a bit thin for a RIS, I didn’t enjoy this one that much...

*did not mind would not buy* aroma: dark leathery earthy aroma. App: black Flavor: smoke! dark black roasty toasty. hops. and not the cleanest best booze in the finish, not the worst though. Palate: fine OA: hmm.. its good its outta balance with the hops and booze compared to the malt richness i crave from these impy stouts.

22 oz. bottle. A very tasty Imp stout that pours very dark brown....even black and has a creamy brownish head. Appears thin as opposed to thick and creamy. Looks beautiful with a very distinctive flavor somewhat diff from alot of stouts I’ve tried. Has all the usual goodness, like burnt woody malt dark coffee flavors. Finishes nice....not bitter. Powerful and relatively inexpensive. One of my regular buys.

Bottle (thanks BeerZack). Chocolate nose, light coffee and caramel. Black with a lot of bubbles. Very roasty flavor, nice caramel sweetness into a dry, slightly bitter finish. Very nice palate.

This one did knock me on my a$$ a bit but in a stealthy way as I hardly noticed the alcohol until I started to see the bottom of th pint glass I was drinking it from. Roasted malt is the name of this game. Slight and pleasant chocolate/cocoa flavors with a faint sweetness on the finish. Quintessential impy stout, well made, well balanced, well malted and roasty goodness.

This one poured a thick dark brown/black with a brown head. Smelled of roasted malts being coffee, and chocolate. The flavor was complex and deep with hints of espresso coffee, chocolate, and cocoa. Has a big taste of smokiness that stays for a while with nice thick lacing. Alcohol almost seems to be none existent until you get a buzz. Semi-sweet. Very good imperial stout. Would buy again, but there are better one’s out there I would buy first.

Pours a thick black body with a creamy cocoa head that disipates rather quickly. The aroma has dry coffee, prunes, roasted barley, anise, and a touch of alcohol. Very smooth, very creamy. The flavor is something less than the aroma, the alcohol gaining in strength and muting some of the fruitiness. Strong roasted coffee, barley and malt tastes remain. The finish is pretty dry and carries a charred nut bitterness. Pretty decent brew.

Black, black, black. Small amber head. Aroma of roasted malt and coffee. Coffee, roasted malt, hops and a small amt of chocolate in the taste.
