Commercial Description:
Chocolate truffles, cocoa, espresso coffee, burnt currants, the sweetness of a sherry - all come to mind when enjoying an Imperial Stout. A rich porter of English origin brewed to withstand the long voyage from London to Czarist Russia. The classic "Winter Warmer". Big, Strong, Malty Stout.

Black with bubbly khaki head that sticks all around the glass. Dark caramalts, cocoa, marshmallow, raisin and lightly spicy hops. Bitter cocoa, caramel, roasted barley, dark fruit, raisins and a lingering hop bitterness throughout. Couldn’t pick out much of the hop characteristics. Full bodied and dry mouthfeel with medium-low carbonation. Pretty good.

22oz bottle pours black with brown highlights and a 1/4 inch tan head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee/roast malt, burnt sugar and booze. Flavor is initially bittersweet chocolate, coca, roasted barley, brown sugar with a nice hop bitterness on the back end. Finishes with a bit of dark fruit & alcohol and dry w/ a faint mineral note.

Poured a dark dark brown with good head. Aroma was all chocolate roastiness. Flavor was much the same with some pine and dark fruits in there. Not a bad beer.

This was compared with Phillip’s and Bear Republic in the same session. Of the three, this was my favourite. Rich heavy silky mouthfeel, sweeter and with more complexity layered into the chocolate and coffee and roast flavours-- chocolate covered cherries, dried figs, vanilla, tobacco, port-- I really savoured and enjoyed this.

Poured at Firkin Fest at Triple Rock labeled 13months on cask, oily black opaque with a frothy large brown head. Aromas of molasses, chocolate, and roasted coffee. The flavor was layered with fig, brown sugar, bittersweet chocolate, roasted coffee, a twinge of smoke, nuts and vanilla. The palate had a velvety smooth creaminess. The firkin fest may have been the perfect format for this one, it had warmed to full flavor and I drank it next to the brewer who was sample testing to see if it was holding up at the fest. Awesome.

Bottle shared by bfeldmann. Pour was full dark black body, ok tan-colored head. The aroma was full chocolate, some roast, piney hops. The flavor followed suit, bitter chocolate notes, though, dark fruits, and a definite full hop finish in flavor. Mouthfeel was moderate to full for the style. Decent brew.

Bomber. Pours deep brownish black, with a 2 finger chocolate brown head and minimal lacing. Nose is roasted coffee, bakers chocolate and alcohol. Palate is roasted malts, cocoa, smoky coffee and alcohol with a hoppy finish. Moderately creamy mouthfeel. Another solid brew from Moylans.
