Commercial Description:
Chocolate truffles, cocoa, espresso coffee, burnt currants, the sweetness of a sherry - all come to mind when enjoying an Imperial Stout. A rich porter of English origin brewed to withstand the long voyage from London to Czarist Russia. The classic "Winter Warmer". Big, Strong, Malty Stout.

Bomber. Poured deep brown with a cool thick cap of tan head that rose magnificently from the liquid. The aroma picked up dry chocolate, toffee, and espresso.. surprisingly soft (a little too so) and dry with no hint of alcohol. The flavor had some nice malty appeal.. semi-sweet chocolate, malted milk balls, and espresso formed the base with a nice roast to it.. rather sweet around the edges with light coffee and earthy bitterness.. mild vinous sourness comes through at the back. Thick and creamy on the palate, again hiding the alcohol well. This didn’t stand out in any regard, but was surely enjoyable.

Bottle. Pours black with a small tan/khaki head with some nice lacing. Aroma of roast, coffee, chocolate, and some citrusy hops. Flavor is roasted coffee, dark roasted malts, dark chocolate and citrus hops. To much hoppiness for my liking in a stout.

Very nice stout. Impressive coffee/chocolate malt flavors. Lingers in the mouth forever. I only got to have a small sample of this at a beer tasting, but it is definitely going on my list of beers to look for when I’m in the mood for a nice stout.

Incredibly rich and thick palate on this beer. Malt aroma with smoke. Flavor has more medium sweet malt, some chocolate and light smoke. Very heavy palate.

I am a sucker for a good Imperial Stout. This is such a beer. Tastes like a liquid Bittersweet Chocolate bar. Full of roasted maltiness, hoppy bitterness and malted sweetness. Pours black with a brown head - which sticks around for some time. Has an oily taste - but this is good. Decadent, very.

Via liquidsolutions. Pours a dark black with a one finger creamy brown head. The aroma is sweet, fruity, light alcohol, coffee, chocolate. The flavor has prominent coffee, chocolate, some hops, waxy, sweet, roasty, molasses. The palate is nice, full and round mouthfeel with a little wax and a little roast.

Original rating, 3/13/08: Thanks to Brewfiend. Black color with a medium head. Very odd aroma... almost like candy cigarettes. Malty taste, slightly oxidized. Light chocolate. Finishes a tad on the bitter side. Very light for an imperial stout. 6/4/6/3/14

Re-rating, 12/30/09: This bottle is approximately a year old and aged in my fridge. Black color with a medium head. Light roast aroma and a hint of wine or sherry. That turns into more than a hint in the taste. Strong roasted barley, moderate winey character and light chocolate. An almost ashy feel/taste, but very full bodied. Big improvement. I don’t know if it was a batch difference or aging, but this is lovely now.
