Rich malty aroma with some roasted grains, cocoa, light spruce and a bit of caramel. Color is primarily black. Lots of malts and roasted grains in this one. Bit of carbon but I don’t detect any strong coffee flavors which is good in my opinion. Mild bitterness and hops presence. Alcohol is noticable but does not detract from the flavor. Body slightly thinner than expected. Finishes roasty with a bit of lingering bitterness. A damn fine impy. AmEricanbrew (1828), bankrupt socialistwelfare state, Washington DC, USA

Light/medium bodied. Great taste of blackened malts with a triple shot mocha coffee flavor. Has a cloying sweet tobacco taste to finish. Good stuff. 82805 Zinister (1201), Houston, Texas, USA

Nose of chocolate, cocoa, roasted oak and some hops near the end. Flavor is dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans and vanilla. Creamy texture with soft carbonation. Very drinkable Impy Stout that I really enjoyed. Pours jet black with subdued head. Underwhelming aromatics, mainly focused on chocolate and malt, but OK for style. This palate is less about roast malt and more about a smooth Imperial Stout. A very nice example of an extremely quaffable Imperial. Maria (6265), Thisted, Denmark
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 3, 2008 Pitch black with a huge, creamy and nougat colored head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, coffee and bitter chocolate. The first impression of the flavour is that it’s harmonic, smooth and yet powerful. It has notes of coffee, chocolate, a light sweetness, a nice bitterness and a long finish. It’s complex and delightful - my kind of Impy!. Thanks a lot Tom/After4ever for this one! unrulythings (73), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Feb 1, 2008 pours a dark brown, almost black with a big tan head. aroma of chocolate, cigars, and dark berries fill the nose. flavor is very complex with notes of coffee, chocolate, burnt wood, and sugar. hides the alcohol well among the malty flavors. | 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jan 31, 2008 22 ounce bottle purchased from Bevmo in Elk Grove, CA. Aroma is roasted, chocolatey, and leathery. Some light ethanolic aromas are also present in the nose. Has a bit of a weird fruity, floral presence, too. Mostly opaque dark dark mahogany body with a nice, brown head that leaves good lacing. A small amount of sweet, chocolate notes are present to start, before this becomes very very roasty and burnt in the middle. Finishes very bitter, with plenty of medicinal grapefruit hoppiness and ethanol. Too burnt and way too bitter to be enjoyable. Below average imperial stout. doubleo (1104), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 27, 2008 Pours dark brown/black, can’t see any light through it. Nice creamy brown head that fades quickly but not totally. Nose on this is a bit subdued, light toastiness. Malty of course with a bit of coffee. Tastes toasty and sweet with coffee notes up front. The only hints of alcohol I get are towards the finish, not overpowering though. Mouthfeel is surprisingly thin, nice subdued carbonation. Coats the mouth just a bit.
Even though this is a big stout, 10%, it is still very mellow on the palate.
