Pours a very nice looking dark black with a thick, creamy tan head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, soy sauce, and some bitter hops. Flavor is very roasty and drying, with a good amount of hops coming through. As it warms, many more sweet vanilla and oaky notes come out. The mouthfeel is like thick oil. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jul 18, 2007 Bomber split with Muenster. Pours very black with a long lasting tan head. A little cascading action and dense lacing ensues after a swirl. There’s a pretty good hop presence on this one along with espresso, hickory, soy sauce, cacao. This is a very roasty and fairly dry imperial stout with hints of raisins and other dark fruit. Lots of espresso notes are present with piny hops highlighting things. The finish has a nut shell dryness to it with hints of chocolate and earth. It’s not a giant, heavily viscous beer, but it can hang with most others in the style. Great take! mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 9, 2007 Pours black, with a small light tan head. Very oily looking. Smells of light roast with a definitive hop aroma as well. Just a touch of some chocolate in the back as well. The taste is very oily on the palate, roasted malts, light chocolate, and hops make up the flavor. Pretty well balanced, the alcohol was masked pretty well too. Overall good imperial stout.
