I may have poured this a bit rough into my tulip, but I’ve got a three finger brown head atop a black body, barely garnet at the edges. The beginning of the first whiff I got some burnt plastic, and now it’s gone. Good. I also get quite a bit of chocolate and caramel sweetness with dry, roasty malts and a hint of coffee in the background. There is also a bit of tangy fruit (cherry?) acidity. Flavor does have the cherry acidity and a lot of roastiness. Burps the burnt plastic from before. It also has the same fusel alcohol taste that Moylan’s Double IPA had (not the Hopsicle--that was awesome), which doesn’t really make me happy. There is some warming alcohol in the back of the throat. A little thinner bodied than I would’ve liked, moderate fairly creamy carbonation. An above average brew and an average imperial stout. blackmurder (170), sadf, Hawaii, USA

Pours a beautiful dark dark brown with a small head when poured quickly. Amazing that it is 10%. Wow! I was more than impressed with this beer. I will buy more of this in the future and re-rate it. kramer (2489), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 13, 2006 22 oz bottle, via FlacoAlto I think. Pours a very dark brown, almost black, colored body under a creamy one finger brown head. Nice retention on the head. Aroma is nicely roasty with alot of bitter chocolate, light alcohol, and some dark fruits. Flavor is similar to aroma, lots of roasted malts with an accent of burnt malt. Chocolate, coffee, and caramel come out on the finish. No apparent alcohol at all. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with a great velvety texture thanks to the low soft carbonation. A little cloying on the finish maybe. This was a pretty darn good beer. Most impressive is the hidden alcohol and the great mouthfeel. lukin013 (211), Columbia, Maryland, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Dec 12, 2006 Bottle from cbkschubert. Pours very dark brown with fantastic thick foamy tan head. Aroma is heavily malty with chocolate, lightly roasty coffee and a slight sourness. Flavor doesn’t live up to the malty aroma as it’s over-powered by the bittering hops. Palatte is a tad thin and a little sticky. Alcohol is a little too well hidden... I’d prefer it to taste a bit "bigger." Oakes (8115), Kowloon, Hong Kong
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 12, 2006 Dark brown colour. Hoppy nose with rich coffee, light wood, and hints of chocolate. Big hop bitterness and light leafy hop flavour accents. Fat and tangy roastiness stings. Brash on the bitterness side, understated on the malt side, this is a more-or-less by-the-numbers impy, well-made but... porterhouse (1162), Alna, Maine, USA

Thick looking, very, very dark brown, nearly opaque. About 1/4" of brownish head recedes to a thin layer and stays. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, currants and sweet cherries. Mouthfeel very smooth, creamy, thick. Fine webby curtains of lacing. Rich flavor of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, cherries and plums present in every draw from the glass. Alcohol well-hidden. Very nice. hayduke (1664), Eureka, California, USA

Poured like used motor oil from a 72 Super Beetle. Big brown head that you could eat with a spoon. Nose of burnt malt, chocolate, coffee, and plums. Mouthfeel was thick and very nice. Flavor was simply outstanding. Very complex yet well balanced flavors. This is very good.
