Commercial Description:
Chocolate truffles, cocoa, espresso coffee, burnt currants, the sweetness of a sherry - all come to mind when enjoying an Imperial Stout. A rich porter of English origin brewed to withstand the long voyage from London to Czarist Russia. The classic "Winter Warmer". Big, Strong, Malty Stout.

courtesy of fiulijn - pours a dark black colour with an elusive beige foam; roasted aroma of ashes and pralines; full-bodied and sticky, oily; some sweetness below; aftertaste of dark chocolate, creamy and roasted, moderately dry

Black with a lasting, light brown head. Intense chocolate aroma with dried fruits, some alcohol and a hint of smoke. Sweet and fruity roasted flavour, with dark chocolate, a little alcohol and a slightly burnt finish.

0.65 l bottle at Konttori, Tampere. Black color with small head. Roasty and warming aroma with coffee, dark sugar, rum, leather and black currant. Thick, sweet, roasty and somewhat boozy flavor with strong dark sugar and licorice notes. Not excatly my kind of Imperial stout, too sweet and boozy.

22oz bottle. Pours a black body with a finger-width, brown head that dissipates quickly and leaves lots of creamy lacing. Another gorgeous impy. Aroma is sweet and vinous with a hard roasted malt. Black grapes and blackberries, bittersweet chocolate, and some sharp licorice. Flavor is rich and fruity with plenty of hard roasted malts. Dried fruits, licorice, a little molasses, some citrus, and plenty of sweet cocoa’s give this a nice sweetness. The roasts and light coffee taste balance this well and give it a light acidic taste. Lots of flavor and very bold. Finishes dry with a roasty, coffee, medium bitter chocolate, light acidic fruit aftertaste that has a pretty long duration. Medium to full bodied and very well balanced with a soft carbonated feel. Overall, my kind of impy. Bold and generously flavored. Good one.

Bomber shared by Luc (merci!), served cool in a tulip glass, bought in 2005! MA26/09.

App.: Brown-black with a large tan froth. Aroma: Tons of fruity black strap molasses, savoury/brothy, vinous, dark chocolate, licorice, rum-like, a little nutty. Palate: Medium body, full effervescence, somewhat powdery/astringent. Flav.: Quite grapey, lots of chocolate, some black coffee, a nice contrast to the nose, slightly woody, still lots of molasses and licorice, so much milk chocolate!; quite sweet with some bitterness, a little out of balance, alcohol is well-integrated.

On tap at the brewpub on 6/30/09. Pours black, tan head. Prety nice chocolat aroma and a good balance of sweet cocoa with bitter coffee. However, this is way too hot fresh. I’m sure the bourbon aged version is much smoother. Great flavors, but needs some mellowing to cool down that alcohol.

bomber poured into a snifter... pours a solid black with a 1 finger tan fluffy head... very nice appearance throughout... big solid medium body with some deep chocolate and coffee notes from the nose to the back of the mouth... a touch of licorice flows towards the bottom, while it finishes with a blast of bitterness that is controlled by the roasted and sweet malt character.

Pours black with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate. Flavor is roasty malt, coffee, sweet with malt and a good bit of booze.
