Commercial Description:
Chocolate truffles, cocoa, espresso coffee, burnt currants, the sweetness of a sherry - all come to mind when enjoying an Imperial Stout. A rich porter of English origin brewed to withstand the long voyage from London to Czarist Russia. The classic "Winter Warmer". Big, Strong, Malty Stout.

Exceptionally balanced stout with an amazing palate. Nice burn from this one and the roast complex is all chocolate oats and a touch of dark fruits. Great beer.

Reviewed 3/17/2009 (Bottle): Pours a black dark red colored body, but very dark. Big foamy tan colored head, lasting, with okay lacing. Chocolately dusty aroma. Some coffee. Some sweet chocolate too. Nice aroma. Watery palate. Dusty taste. Some roastedness. A little alcoholy. Pretty good tasting.

this is really good. Pours beautifully - deep brown/black with one finger caramel head. Smells mostly of roasted currant. Tasty is really nice - roasty, coffee, and bitter dark chocolate with lingering aftertaste. Not the thicekst RIS but fine on the palate for me. Pretty impressed.

Aroma is delicious – sweet chocolate, roasted barley, coffee, a little alcohol, and citrus hops too. Taste is all of the above in wonderful balance plus dark fruit and tar. The alcohol, however, is basically nonexistent. Nice bitter, hoppy finish too. Smooth, creamy mouth feel with moderate to low carbonation. Dry finish of chocolate ice cream, hops, a hint of ash, and coffee. Outstanding. Very drinkable and enjoyable.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with large dark brown foamy head with good retention and good lacing. Aroma of black chocolate and lightly dry coffee with some side notes of tar is quite a treat. Taste is also a great mix between some deep dry black chocolate with nice notes of espressos and some subtle notes of tar. Very well balance and not aggressively hopped. Full body with limited filtration and great carbonation with no signs of alcohol.

650 ml. Opaque with a half-inch of bubbles that settles to a lasting disc. Initial aromas of charred hickory, piquant green herb, coffee, light caramel and oats. After a while some iron comes in to the nose and lingers. Flavors of prickly charred mesquite and hickory chips, green apple, dark chocolate, espresso, oak, Cannon Ball plug, and hints of country ham. Heavy body is slightly watery, roasty-dry and smoothly carbonated. Delicate tats of lace left behind.

Absolutely perfect appearance. Black as oil with a very large and very fluffy tan head. Lacing the whole way. The aroma is very chocolaty with some molasses and some ash. A bold bittersweet chocolate flavor is somewhat lessened by entirely too much alcohol burn in the finish. A promising beer that might be just a touch too young.
