bb (2905), Martinez, California, USA Oct 15, 2009 Draft. Rich mahogony beer with a light tan head. Chocolate, malt, and light bourbon aroma. Bourbon, chocolate, and rich malt flavor. medium-plus bodied. Chocolate, bourbon, and some barrel oak linger. Ughsmash (3978), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Jan 24, 2009 On tap at FoBAB. Poured medium-viscosity deeper brown with a loose cap of beige head. The aroma picked up nicely-roasted sweeter chocolates and a light barrel influence in the form of vanilla and cut bourbon.. not complex, but certainly solid. The flavor had sweet chocolates and roasted barley at the core with vanilla and bourbon accents.. sharper on the back-end with oak and bourbon.. cake-like chocolates and vanilla sweetened up the finish. Medium-bodied with low-to-moderate carbonation on the palate.. the barrel provided mildly interesting character.. decent overall. drewbeerme (2224), Chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 28, 2008 FoBAB 2008 - listing called it a bourbon barrel. pours black with tan head, nose of chocolate and roast. flavors of chocolate, roast, coffee. decent, but not much barrel. AgentSteve (1334), SF Bay Area, California, USA Nov 27, 2008 Pours dark brown with no head. The nose is sweet with chocolate, coffee and malts, but the flavor is more harsh and not as good as the non barreled. A bit thin in the body as well. kmweaver (2396), Sebastopol, California, USA Nov 27, 2008 Draft @ Bistro BA Fest (labeled as aged for 9 months in the barrel). Pours a murky, chocolate-brown color; decent viscosity; thin off-white head with patchy lacing. Solid amounts of dark bitter chocolate, toasty oak and vanilla, and well-roasted coffee in the aroma; nicely roasted and solid mineral bitterness. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: chewy chocolate, well-roasted coffee, and nicely toasty oak and wood; solid imperial stout core with a very light toastiness and oaky wooden notes; a better-tempered version from the original. Lengthy finish: bitter dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and toasty oak and solid wood. ratman197 (3137), Arvada, Colorado, USA Nov 26, 2008 On tap @ 3rd Annual Bistro BA Fest poured a clear deep dark brown with a lingering ring of brown foam. Aromas of bourbon, cocoa, carmel and a hint of vanilla. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of oak, bitter chocolate, light bourbonand roastiness with a smooth dry lingering roasty finish. CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Dec 22, 2007 Sampled at the second annual Bistro’s West Coast Barrel Aged Beer Fest: Pours a mostly opaque oily black with dark brown edges and a thin ring of tan head. Aroma of mild bourbon oak and some dark chocolate and vanilla. Body starts semi-sticky and dark caramely sweet with decent earthy chocolate balance toward a drier, slightly buttery finish. A decent barrel-aged imperial stout but could be a little more complex and balanced. Odeed (1666), Bakersfield, California, USA Nov 11, 2007 (bistro ba fest)black body with a small brown head.dark fruit, liquorice, chocolate, and a bit of oak made up this well balanced imperial.i can see why it one an award at the show.
