TampaBrew (726), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 3, 2009 On cask @ the brewery. Poured a hazy light brown. Nose was vegetal, pine and citrus hops, slight wood and alcohol. Flavor was oak, wines, veggies, sour grapes, some vanilla, sharp hop bitterness and sour fruits. Finished dry and slightly vinous. HighWine (163), , California, USA May 23, 2009 2008 vintage on cask at the brewery. Caramel color; toffee-caramel nose. Sweet malt and a full palate. Iced tea and medium hops taste. I liked this with the oak -- seems to have made it better on the palate. 0o9i (326), Reno, Nevada, USA May 3, 2009 On cask @ brewery, 2008 edition. Honey body, lightly hazy, no head. Big hop nose, very floral, fruity hop profile, sweet. Full body with light carbonation. Flavor of sugar, light honey, lots of peach, some pine and grapefruit rind. Best beer I had on my trip to northern Cal. Big improvement over regular hopsickle (harsh astringency is gone). This is balanced, rich, fruity, and very easy to drink. pantanap (1322), Chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 7, 2009 sampled at FOBAB 2008... cloudy hazy apple cider brown pour with a non-existent head... light tropical fruit aroma with sweet woody notes... light citrus hops flavors and more of the woody vanilla accents. somewhat thin mouthfeel and soft carbonation. AgentSteve (1334), SF Bay Area, California, USA Dec 7, 2008 I admit, not a fan of the standard all though I like most other IIPAs, but wet hopping and barrel aging takes away some of the oily influence and mellow the flavor a bit. Much better than without the wood. NobleSquirrel (1094), Chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 18, 2008 Fobab VI. I actually liked this far more than normal Hopsickle. Hazy peachy orange color, almost no head. The bitterness is much more subdued and some of the oak does come out, but the wet warriors definitely let the hops and citrus really sing out. This was a damn fine IIPA, cleaning up the things I disliked about the original version. Very good. dm9831 (1167), Monee, Illinois, USA Nov 18, 2008 FoBAB 2008: hazy apricot color, quickly dissipating head. nose is sour and hoppy with fruity and citrus notes. flavor is smooth blend of grapefruit and litterbox. medium bodied, smooth dry finish. overall, a bit of a disappointment for my favorite style of beer. CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Dec 22, 2007 Sampled at the second annual Bistro’s West Coast Barrel Aged Beer Fest: Pours a transparent orange bronze with a thin ring of white head. Aroma of fresh grapefruity citrusy hops with notes of oaky complexity. Body starts with good thickness and some crisp bittering grapefruity hoppy notes toward a drier oaky bittersweet finish. I don’t get too much vinous character here, but a good amount of fresh oak. Crisp and fairly drinkable.
