Sampled at the second annual Bistro’s West Coast Barrel Aged Beer Fest: Pours a transparent orange bronze with a thin ring of white head. Aroma of fresh grapefruity citrusy hops with notes of oaky complexity. Body starts with good thickness and some crisp bittering grapefruity hoppy notes toward a drier oaky bittersweet finish. I don’t get too much vinous character here, but a good amount of fresh oak. Crisp and fairly drinkable.

FoBAB 2009. This poured a slightly hazed light gold body with a small white head. This showed few effects of being in a barrel. The aroma was full of fresh citrusy hops with a touch of resin. The taste had a light caramel sweetness at its base but all about the hops in both flavor and bitterness. The finish was a solid, lingering dry bitterness. Very nice indeed.

On tap @ The Bistro poured a cloudy copper with a minimal lingering amber head. Aromas of grapefruit, pine, carmel and hints of wine and oak. Palate was light bodied crisp and slightly dry and tart. Flavors of grapefruit, pine, light carmel and faint hints of wine and oak. Very tasty indeed!

Draft at the Bistro’s West Coast BA Fest, 11/10/07; Nose extremely hoppy with ivy and pine odors and a winey note; very cloudy copper with a small beige head; flavor shows medium hop bitterness, but not too much, ivy, and some wine and wood notes. Tied for my favorite of the Fest with the Valley Dec Gran Cuvee!

(ba bistro fest)light orange with no head.the aroma is a subtle blend of hops and a chardonnay.the flavor is more upfront with the hops but the wine does come out.very well balanced and nicely done for sure.

I admit, not a fan of the standard all though I like most other IIPAs, but wet hopping and barrel aging takes away some of the oily influence and mellow the flavor a bit. Much better than without the wood.
