Light as a carbonaded boysenberry seltzer. It took 10 minutes to pour. Don't even think of drinking out of the bomber, unless you want to feel your stomach expand (trust me on this one). | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Mar 9, 2005 Updated: Mar 12, 2005(22 oz bottle: $2.80 at Moylan’s Brewery in Novato, CA) What is with these guys? So many of their bottles are severely over carbonated. Despite a very careful pour, I still ended up with a complete glass of foam. Hell, there’s even an inch of foam topping the beer INSIDE THE BOTTLE now. I may as well go rate another beer and come back to this one after the head dies down. {Rated Abita Purple Haze} Okay, I’m back, and the head has receded to a very bubbly, quarter inch layer atop the beer. For quite some time, the frenetic rush of carbonation bubbles as they raced to the surface was quite a sight. Unfortunately, the wait wasn’t worth it. The berry flavor of this beer is lightly tart, and lightly sweet, but isn’t especially fruity and tastes artificial and plasticy to me. Since the berry is the overwhelming flavor, it’s hard to get past it. The wheat flavor in the background seems pretty standard. Mild hops bitterness isn’t especially noticeable until the finish, where it’s barely noticeable. The nose matches the tart berry and wheat flavor. The palate is (obviously) highly carbonated, and the beer is light to medium in body. Light golden color with a modest haziness on the early pours, but the final pour releases a good amount of sediment from the bottom of the bottle, so the beer shows lots of suspended particles. The foamy head is off-white, but with all that foam, there is no lacing since it just slides right down the glass, returning to surface of the beer. Not a bad beer, I mean, it’s okay, but if you’re gonna make a boisenberry wheat beer where the berry dominates, at least make it fruity. 5000 (2455), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 5, 2004 Updated: Feb 6, 2004Bottle bursts a cloudy yellow with a HUGE fluffy white head. They need to put a warning on the side saying contents will explode when opened! Seriously, open this one very slowly. Carbonation is just streaming from all over this beer. Lacing is like superglue. Aroma is very very fruity/berry. Initial taste, once you get over your mouth full of carbonation, is very berry, but also a bit acidic and metallic. Noticing little yeasty elements floating around in there. Certainly looks like a wheat beer. Sheesh, this foam head still persists. The resultant burps prove to be a better method of tasting this brew, no metallic taste there. Mouthfeel is, well... very well carbonated. As Eyedrinkale suggested, don't be thinking of pounding this one. The finish shows off the sour/acidic side a bit more, but its not overley powerful. However, a slight metallic aftertaste lingers. I think this is a great Fuit Beer, but it would be even better if it wasn't so damned lively. Reminds me a lot of the old Portland Brewing Wheat BerryBrew, cept that one wasn't as carbonated. Thanks goes out to herbjones for the trade!

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 14, 2004 Draft at brewpub. Hazy yellow, nice head. Definite fruit aroma. Dry wheat flavor breaks into a big boysenberry syrup finish. Not bad, just a hair too syrupy sweet for me. TAR (2093), Boulder Co., Colorado, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 25, 2002 Clean berry aroma, alongside slight metallic and musty notes, that remind me of authentic Lambic. Appearance is that of a German Wheat; hazy, pale straw. Fizzy white foam with large bubbles that settle into a mountainous chunk. Effervescence is very present, but not intrusive. Medicinal qualities, simiar to its Belgian counterpart. Plenty of bready malt to support the subtle sourness. Vinegar/sour/acidic qualities convince me that this beer is of high status. Notably dry finish. A perfect beer for the Summertime. The first American-made fruit beer I would repurchase.
