Moylans White Christmas Belgian Style Wit (2006,2007)

Copper with a small head of white that dissapates quickly. Dusty malts in the nose with a hint of citrus and some spice. Not much spice. There’s more spices found in the flavor along with some orange peel. The coriander comes about in the finish. Body is somewhat thick. Doesn’t really remind much of a wit.

22oz bottle, courtesy of BBB63. Thanks, Mike! Pours a bright, clear yellowish-orange color; thin, whitish head with patchy lacing. Slightly corny, sugary aroma; a bit of orange peel and minimal coriander. Flabby, lightly carbonated mouthfeel: sugar, corn, and minimal spicing; quite blasé. Medium, sugar and dry orange peel in the finish.

22 oz. bottle: Pours an almost clear golden with a minor head and some retention. The aroma has cinnamon, and orange as does the taste. Wheat is also present in the taste. The mouth feel is nice but probably inappropriate for the style. This is an okay beer but I don’t think I’ll search it out again.

Bottle at A&K tasting: Strange clean golden hue (not witbier looking) with a small frothy head and spotty lace. The aroma has notes of orange zest, coriander, cinnamon, apple, caramel and wheat. The taste is spicy and fruity as well as phenolic. Additional notes of toffee and bready malts. The mouth feel is lively and sprite with a dry finish, refreshing. Not very witbier like except for the spices used.

22 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with dirty_martini. Pours an almost clear gold with a moderate white head that lasted to the last sip and left light lacing on the glass. Lots of tiny carbonation bubbles. Pleasant aroma of yeast, wheat, coriander and orange. A bit more flavorful than the aroma would indicate with yeast, wheat, coriander and orange with a dry finish. A little black pepper heat at the finish as well, which I liked and fit nicely with this beer. Different and enjoyable.

Thanks to Mike for this. Golden color with a small white head. Yeasty, aroma but predominantly steeped grains. Malty grains in the flavor as well with a medium body.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle. Tinny, dull, clear orange. Suspiciously unfiltered in appearance. Sweet aroma of vanilla, pastry crust, and sugared lemonade; hints toward something peppery and vaguely spicy lightly affected by bathroom stink. Pilsener-like honey aromas warm up toward the end. Taste is very crisp, highly but indistinctly spiced, and with a heavily papery type of sweetness; hair spray, citrus rind, some sprucy and coriander tones. Thin, with prickly carbonation; somewhat harsh in the mouth especially for this more or less gentle style. Lots of dry bitterness finishes with a rub of clean and bland spice. Boring, and sort of confusing. Thanks for sharing, Mike!

2007 Bottle: Pours a slightly hazy amber with a white head. Aroma, yeasty, wheat, spices. Flavor, yeasty, slight tartness, some spices, wheat. Not bad.
