Commercial Description:
Deep red-black in color, with a dense chocolatey brown head. Hogsback is mildly carbonated and aged longer than other ales. This English style stout is richer, smoother and slightly sweeter than typical Irish style stouts, making it popular among a wider range of beer aficionados. Extremely complex in its flavor and aroma it will at once give you impressions of coffee, chocolate, molasses, hops, sweet malt, and silky-smooth alcohol. A big beer to brew, but worth the extra effort! This is Mt. Hood's second-most popular beer. O.G. 1.064/ 4.5 abv/ Magnum, Mt. Hood, Cascade, Willamette hops/ Four different malts and rolled oats/ Molasses and licorice.

I usually notice over sweetness right away. This beer tasted wonderful as a sample, but seemed to become progressively sweeter, and after nearing the end of a full pint I wished I had ordered something else. Smooth and good flavored, just too sweet.

Had this on tap at the Ice Axe Grill at Government Camp, OR. Colour... black with a thin off-white head. Nose... roasted malt, molasses, Nescafe, and light hops. Palate... malty, creamy, gently hops and light unsulphured molasses. I regularly enjoy this on cask at the Horse Brass in Portland, OR but it was nice to try at "the source".

Thick beer, large body, super dark and pours a decent head. Definetly sweeter than most, but almost to a fault. Halfway between strong chocolate, molasses, and oatmeal notes, and not at all hoppy.

On tap at the brewery on nitro. Black pour with a very smooth khaki head. Very smooth palate due to the nitro tap, soft roastiness comes through, but a bit more muted on nitro. Soft chocolate notes up front, coffee builds in the dry finish. One of the best beers on the sampler plate. Hopefully I can try this again on CO2.

Tap @ Rams Head Bar in Timberline... Poured Black with a brown head. Aroma was roasted and maybe some baked cookies and sweet malt. Dry, full palate with a nice sizzle on the tongue. Flavors of coffee and roasted chocolate, nuts and malt. Finished very sweet with toffee notes and dry coffee.

Tasted somewhere along my trip through the States.
Brown colored breew. Roasted chocolate aroma. Malty coffee and chocolate in the flavor. Smooth and a bit creamy with a nice balanced bitterness.
