Oakes (6819), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Aug 1, 2006 Cask. Hazy amber colour. Light caramel flavour. Low bitterness, hints of earth. Quite simple. harlequinn (2746), Tacoma, Washington, USA Jul 3, 2006 This almost tasted flat, like it was on its way to being that way, just working itself out trying to stay alive. Flavors is rich caramel and some lingering nuttiness, with some great fruitiness, and just a hint of bitterness in the finish. BrewDad (1621), Olympia, Washington, USA Aug 29, 2005 This was a Cask version EBS and to my taste it was not perfect. It tasted as though it had been sitting too ling in the cask. There where a lot of off flavors. I will try again this winter. DarkElf (2627), La Jolla, California, USA Aug 27, 2005 (Cask: Mt. Hood Brewing Co. in Government Camp, OR) Not available on draft, this is the cask version, and I think the cask may be a bit old. The aroma is sweet, but mostly that of sour-smelling, spoiling fruit. The flavor is better, but again seems old. It’s very fruity and somewhat sweet, with a mild bitterness sitting in the background. The finish is slightly sour, again like that of spoiling fruit. Light amber in color. Almost no head at all, with just a few bubbles clinging to the glass, but it’s on cask after all. Since this place is in the middle of nowhere, principally a ski town and it’s summertime, I suspect there isn’t much turnover with the beers, so I’d really like to see what this ESB is like when fresh, but this cask version isn’t very good.
