hopscotch (5437), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Sep 4, 2009 Bottle… Lightly hazed golden ale with a small, bubbly, white head. The nose is of honey, toffee, resin and pine. Full-bodied and velvety with bristly carbonation. Leans only slightly toward the bitter side of balance. Malty and sweet up front, but hopped sufficiently to place it firmly within the genre of PNW IPA. Finishes tannic, tongue-numbing and fairly dry. Thanks go out to giarcsr for sending this bottle my way! Oscbert (531), Sacramento, California, USA Aug 21, 2009 ~Pours a cloudy gold/amber color with small head.
~Berry hop scent with mild malts and light grapefruit.
~Woodsy hop flavor with slight berry sweetness, bitter and oaky.
~Medium feel, bitter oak finish.
~Nice IPA. I enjoy the oaky hops. Taverner (819), San Ramon, California, USA Aug 6, 2009 Not a bad IPA! Had this one fresh at the brewery. Much like Stone IPA, in that its a nice tongue buckling bitter IPA. Full flavored, and strong in hops. Drink this one fresh. stchloe (473), Portland, Oregon, USA Jul 31, 2009 A very nice IPA with hops that last throughout and define the body. More of a piney/resin quality. Not the most bitter or strongest flavor but its getting there. steview (901), Los Angeles, California, USA Jul 11, 2009 stinky caramel aroma; cloudy copper body with lasting off-white head; bittersweet flavor - notes of wood, grapefruit, sugar; smooth at first, but eventually wants to be cloying yet doesn’t get there; good brew overall, but nothing different in comparison to the competition. thooper41 (384), Oregon, USA Jun 19, 2009 Updated: Jul 16, 200912oz bottle: appearance is amber brown with slow fading cream color head, aroma is of pale malt with a hint of hops, flavor was pretty clean tasting but needed more hops, this was a very weak IPA. SamGamgee (1393), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA Jun 4, 2009 Updated: Jun 8, 200912oz bottle. When the commercial description says "mild and malty India Pale Ale" that is definitely a red flag. Lightly hazy honey-amber color with a big white head. Malty aroma with floral, piney hops as well. More malt than I am used to smelling in the style. there is also a light buttery quality. Malty in a biscuit or cracker sense, with a bit if piney hop flavor and medium bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied with a creamy feel. Feels like its decently done, but not really what I want in an IPA; not very expressive hops and an odd malty flavor. robertjm (399), El Cerrito, California, USA May 17, 2009 Poured into the glass straight down the middle. This created a huge creamy head which really hasn’t fallen in over a couple of minutes and even after consuming half the bottle is still there with lots of lace on the glass! Slightly cloudy copper color body. Nice hoppy aroma. Body a bit thin. First part of flavor is hops. Then there’s a malt kicker, followed by a hoppy aftertaste. Hops linger on the palate, but not overwhelming, which is a plus.
