Burnt/Roasty aroma of coffee, toffee, chocolate, and a touch of vanilla... Flavors of burnt coffee but not a huge amount... There is a certain guinness tastes like nothing quality to this beer... I really want to like this, but i feel like im missing something that others got... I get a burnt taste that doesnt really linger then not a whole lot after that... Easy drinking... adrian910ss (1395), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 22, 2009 Pours a very deep ruby bordering on black color with a medium beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee beans and cola. Taste of roasted malts, coffee beans with a hint of smoke and charred flavor. michael-pollack (2602), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 21, 2009 12oz. Bottle: Aroma of bitter and burnt coffee, chocolate, sugar, roasting, slight toffee, and some charcoal. Poured dark brown in color with a small, dense, tan head that diminished but lasted throughout. Cloudy. Sparkling. Flavor is lightly bitter and slightly sweet. Tastes of roasted malts, bitter coffee, chocolate, slight tar, light piney hops, slight vanilla, and a hint of toffee. Medium body. Chalky, lightly dry, lightly sticky texture. Roasted malts, coffee, and chocolate finish is a little bitter and dry. Sparky27 (1559), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Feb 14, 2009 Bottle courtesy of Iowaherkeye – thanks Joey! Pours a beep oxblood with a half finger tan head. The nose is roasted coffee beans and cocoa. The taste is roasted malts, light chocolate and sawdust with a sour coffee finish. Light-to-medium body. Decent. iowaherkeye (1832), Bakersfield, California, USA Feb 10, 2009 Updated: Aug 5, 200912oz bottle, no date. Clear deep brown ruby with very small beige head, fading to a thin ring. Aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate, and a bit of cola. The flavor adds some grainy roasted malts, but thankfully no burnt character that pisses me off all too often. Semi-dry with a roasty, mildly bitter (2-3 out of 10) finish. Thin body with almost no carbonation at all. I’m going to try another bottle and make sure I didn’t have a faulty bottle, as I was kinda excited to try this one. Rerate--still a little thin bodied, but carbonation is better--also some light pine hops. It gets 3 extra points now. HopDuvel99 (39), Tennessee, USA Feb 7, 2009 Dark ruby brown with a scant off-white head. Aroma of licorice and hops. Creamy mouthfeel, full body. Licorice, roasty and bitter with a little malty sweetness for balance. An exemplary porter. bradlyc77 (226), Sebastopol, California, USA Jan 20, 2009 Pours dark brown, almost black, with minimal brown head that fades. Aroma is sweet/malty and some raisins. Taste is dark roast coffee, chocolate, caramel, nutty, and some hops bitterness in the finish. Coffee and hops bitterness linger for awhile. Texture is a bit watery and fizzy, but overall a pretty good porter.
