4 ounce sample on tap at California Brewer’s Festival. Metallic, hoppy, grapefruity aroma with roasted, burnt, choco-coffee notes present. Quite metallic. Quite hoppy. Mostly opaque dark brown/black body with an orangey-tan head that is frothy. Black, burnt, roasted, malty notes to start. A bit of tobacco and leather is also present. Finishes with some bitter grapefruity hoppiness. A very hoppy porter...too much so for my tastes.

courtesy of Kenb. Thanks for clearing this one from my wants list. Aroma is a nice mix of hops and dark chocolate aromas with some subtler fruity aromas mixed in. Body is flat black and holds a creamy mocha colored head that is thumb thick and diminishes slowly. Lace clings to the glass. Fore is bittersweet chocolate with very lucious dark cherry notes in the middle. Finishes with a roasty bitterness that reminds me of a scaled down version of Gonzo Imperial Porter. I figured this would be decent, but it’s actually very damn good. Definitely more aggresively hopped than most porters. That works well here and amplifies the latent coffee notes in the aftertaste. Tastes much bigger than you’d expect from a 6% abv beer. Excellent porter!

From a 12oz bottle purchased at Belmont Station--Poured an abysmal black body with a tiny wispy gray-brown head. Nutty, coffee nose with lots of robust maltiness. Well-carbonated mouth feel. Lots of coffee in flavor and in finish. This is a well-built beer. Yum!

Bottle. The name and label are just a little too cute. That plus the location conjures images of a couple of guys sitting around smoking enough to make any name sound like a good idea at the time. Pours nearly opaque blackish brown with a dark tan head. Aroma of coffee, dark chocolate. Creamy medium body and moderate carbonation. The taste starts out sweet with chocolate, roasted nuts, then dries out an moves to espresso a little ash on the finish. This one flirts more than a little with stout characteristics.

12oz bottle. Pours a deep brown with a small beige head, some lacing. Lots of toffee, caramel, and coffee on the nose. A lot more spice than expected as well. Brew had a finish of bitter chocolate.

Bottle. Dark brown with a fleeting head. Nice nutty, chocolate malt aromas. Medium body. Decent nutty roasty flavors comes across a bit thin. Nice bittersweet cocoa flavor to finish.

Darker colored. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, caramel, moderate to low hops. Medium to light bodied, lightly sweet. It’s ok but nothing stands out about it.

Dark brown pour with frothy tan head. Bittersweet chocolate on the nose. Favor is chocolate, coffee, and roast. Slightly dry finish
