Any first impressions?
-Ample foam and lacing atop opaque darkness.
-Chocolatey sweetness benefits from a roasted malt contour, building a solid yet self-effacing aroma.
-Milk chocolate and molasses abound, straightforward and humble.
-A chewy, round mouthfeel provides sufficient nutritional value in the form of biteable maltiness.

What if you dig deeper?
-A delicate roastiness follows the malty sweetness.
-Did I imagine these faint hops in the finish?
-Sweetness evolves into a subtle licorice/star anise component towards the end.
-A nourishing, well-crafted porter for meditative sessions.

Bottle; no date.

Dark ruby brown with a scant off-white head. Aroma of licorice and hops. Creamy mouthfeel, full body. Licorice, roasty and bitter with a little malty sweetness for balance. An exemplary porter.

This one pours deep and dark, almost stout like. An interesting balance of sweetness and saltiness. This has this great chocolate sweetness and then a sweet and salty mixture of dark brown nuttiness. Rich and creamy with some mellow roastiness in the finish.

Dark, with small tan head. Aroma is hoppy with chocolate and roasted malt. Flavour is semi-sweet with some hop bitterness. Body is medium and oily, ends with a nice bitterness.

Bottle: Dark brown, lighter on the edges, moderate light brown foamy head, nice lacing, looks tasty.   Cocoa and appleskin nose, fairly sweet, slight lactose.   Smooth roasted malt profile, definitely sweet, emergence of cocoa and light fruitiness at the finish.   Definitely a sweeter example of the style.   Finishes with a bit of a hop twang and moreso of the roasted malt flavor thats to be expected for the style.   Fairly big body but moderate mouthfeel.   Tasty, but maybe turn down the sweetness a bit, up the hop factor, and it’d be tastier.   Thanks Bill!

Dark opaque black body with ruby edges and a minimal tan head. Roasted malt and coffee aroma. Flavors are very choco-coffe and malty. Medium bodied. Nice stuff.

Pours a very deep ruby bordering on black color with a medium beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee beans and cola. Taste of roasted malts, coffee beans with a hint of smoke and charred flavor.

This black ale poured with a thin tan head and a rich malt aroma. It’s slightly carbonated with a rich malt flavor and a long bitter finish.
