-Ample foam and lacing atop opaque darkness.
-Chocolatey sweetness benefits from a roasted malt contour, building a solid yet self-effacing aroma.
-Milk chocolate and molasses abound, straightforward and humble.
-A chewy, round mouthfeel provides sufficient nutritional value in the form of biteable maltiness.
What if you dig deeper?
-A delicate roastiness follows the malty sweetness.
-Did I imagine these faint hops in the finish?
-Sweetness evolves into a subtle licorice/star anise component towards the end.
-A nourishing, well-crafted porter for meditative sessions.

An interesting balance of sweetness and saltiness. This has this great chocolate sweetness and then a sweet and salty mixture of dark brown nuttiness. Rich and creamy with some mellow roastiness in the finish. BeerPrince (1701), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 29, 2005 Bottle: Dark brown, lighter on the edges, moderate light brown foamy head, nice lacing, looks tasty. Cocoa and appleskin nose, fairly sweet, slight lactose. Smooth roasted malt profile, definitely sweet, emergence of cocoa and light fruitiness at the finish. Definitely a sweeter example of the style. Finishes with a bit of a hop twang and moreso of the roasted malt flavor thats to be expected for the style. Fairly big body but moderate mouthfeel. Tasty, but maybe turn down the sweetness a bit, up the hop factor, and it’d be tastier. Thanks Bill!
