Commercial Description:
IPA or India Pale Ale is a style of beer for the real lover of all things hops. It originated during the British occupation of India as a way of exporting fresher tasting beer through the use of very large hop additions to act as a natural preservative. In the last few decades however it has morphed into several different interpretations – Classic British IPA, American IPA, New World IPA and the real aggressor IIPA. At MT Brewery our IPA is not one but several different beers that will rotate through to showcase different hop varieties and different techniques for brewing this real beer lover’s style. All of them will be big on bitterness and very big on flavor. Our current IPA (yippy) is a Classic British IPA with lots of Marmalade, Kumquat & other citrus flavours supported by a big malt backbone and plenty of bitterness.

Quite a typical IPA. Very english, not overwhelming and quite liquored up, but with a decent hop profile to keep it balanced. Nothing to blow you away, but a good, solid beer.

330ml bottle. A standout performer from this relatively new brewery. Deep copper colour with a rocky white cream head and aromas of citrus and peaches with a sweet honeyish flavour and a strong aftertaste.

An impressive IPA that shows good bitternes and hop flavour without trying to strip my toungue of flavour receptors. Nice orange and passionfruit nose with some good biscuity malt as well. Easy to drink ... didn’t realise the ABV at first. Not sure if it is meant to be US or UK in style as it seems to be a little bit of each. Re-rated after a recent tasting. Beer appeared fresher and even more vibrant.

Sample at MT Brewery. Pours amber with a medium beige head. Aroma and flavour of biscuit, caramel, apricot and citrus. Medium bodied. Smooth and bitter finish. A well brewed IPA. Update: had this from the keg at the Local Taphouse in Sydney and held up very nicely, a delicious English style IPA, and although it’s of a higher ABV it’s extremely easy to drink and without a doubt one of the better brewed IPA’s in the country.

Full bodied but doesn’t stray into the US North West Coast space. This interpretation is true to style. Lots of malt early giving off caramel notes and a spicy (almost chilli-like) finish. Quite assertive.
