Muggus69 (500), Sydney, Australia Nov 8, 2009 Draught
Ok, so officially speaking this is neither the 50th beer of my Eurotrip, and it’s not even a local beer, being in Firenze of all places. But considering how nice it is, and has been the best beer i’ve had for a while, I figure...why not?
Picture perfect nitro-pour; opaque pitch black body with a rock-solid inch of white cream that survives the whole (short!) journey down.
Aroma is muted, but noticable mocha tones leak through.
Good carbonation, velvety, creamy sort of texture that adds to what would be considered a lean body otherwise.
Lovely roasted malt body; espresso, dark chocolate, tar, oats, vegemite; nothing overdone, just well balanced with only a moderate bitterness to finish.
Really enjoyable stout, comparable to Guinness but a bit different. AR (417), Georgia, USA Nov 7, 2009 Frothy head with little aroma for a stout. The beer has a mild cocoa flavoring and a creamy body. brenn79 (140), Idaho, USA Nov 7, 2009 16 oz. can- Pours deep black with an average head. I am going to compare this to Guinness for obvious reasons and also because I had a guinness right before this. Guinness is far superior in appearance, the head in Guinness is thicker, more creamy. I liked the flavor of Murphys better, it was smoother and not as harsh, they were both good stouts though. Aquilo (248), California, USA Nov 4, 2009 Dark red, almost black but not quite. It’s a bit lighter than I expected. A dense cream colored head forms after much churning down below, but it settles much faster than a Guiness. Aroma is faint. Almonds, vanilla, and cream. I’m only giving a 6 for flavor, because I’m a bit disappointed. It’s a bit too drinkable. Too mellow, if you know what I mean. I expect a stout to have a stronger taste. The flavors I detect are coffee, almonds and vanilla. Perhaps a hint of chocolate. I do like the mouthfeel. It’s like drinking air! Very light and smooth. Overall, it’s a more drinkable Irish stout, but leaves me wanting. yobdoog (1426), Woodridge NY, New York, USA Oct 29, 2009 Dark pour with a thick dense white cap of a head. Aroma initially has some coffee and roasted malts. Coffee essence fades. Flavor is sweet with roasted malts a little coffee and slight burnt toasted malts. Niko100 (82), New York, USA Oct 28, 2009 Rich brown color; Heavy creamy body; Aroma of roasted malt and some spice; Flavor of sweet roasted malt, some caramel, chocolate overtones; Not as good as Guinness, but I do like it. fonefan (10868), VestJylland, Denmark Oct 28, 2009 Draught @ Dronning Louise, Torvet 19, 6700 Esbjerg, Denmark. Clear dark dark brown color with a large, creamy, good lacing, fully lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to light light heavy malty, roasted, coffee. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a long to average duration. Body is medium, texture is watery to oily, carbonation is soft.
