16oz can. Pours a thick, tan head with a dark brown body. Smells of toast and burnt sugar. Tastes of coffee, caramel, and toast. Creamy finish that is slightly bitter.

Tap at Hole in the Wall, A’dam. A dark beer with a hoppy, almost like bread, taste to it. Good stout.

[1765-20081004] Tap. Lots of coffee roast in the aroma. Black body with red highlights has a long-lasting creamy tan head and lovely cascading down the sides of the glass when you tip it. Heavy roasted malt flavour has all low notes and lots of bitter coffee. Full body. Nice brew, could be smoother but looks beautiful. (7/5/7/3/15) 3.7

[1851C-20081103] Tap. Fruity plum and roasty malt grains aroma. Dark brown black body with a thick creamy light tan head and wave-action cascading down the sides. Initially bitter roast malt flavour followed quickly by a roasted fruit plum. Full body is a little watery. Could be thicker, not bad. (7/5/6/3/13) 3.4

To me, this and Guinness are nearly dead even. But this one’s creamier and a little more coffee/chocolate like.

Not a lot going on here. I got nostalgic the other day and thought I would try this again. Very light aroma and the flavor is weak roasted malt and light coffee. It was better than this 10 years ago.

Draught in the Celtic Corner, Dartmouth N.S. great look top this stout. Creamy white head. Not much aroma. Not much flavour. Sadly another beer that has gone down hill since being brewed by InBev UK. It used to be good. Not any more. Shame.

On draft pours dark with creamy beige head consistency of whipped egg whites. Aroma is slight malt. Flavors are chocolate, roasted malt and coffee (more of a range than Guinness), with a thin (compared to Guinness), somewhat oily palate. Finish is satisfyingly dry.

A favourite from the good old days, when I turned 18, visited pubs and began to drink this and Guinness. Roasted malt, chocolate, coffee in the aroma (very typical). Good chocolate/coffee taste. Lightly bitter, roasted and dry at the end. Creamy, but thin on the palate. Not that bad but boring nowadays...
