Different from the other Irish stouts mostly by not being bitter at all, but rather being almost sweet with a bunch of chocolate taste. Really smooth as well. My favorite of the three most common Irish stouts. Icommonsewer (122), TUCSON, Arizona, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 25, 2007 On tap @ Johnny Foley’s in SF, almost black with a nice creamy head. Smooth, coffe and malt. Not as bitter as Guinness, so it was easier to drink. Clean finish. Nice offering. malrubius (1004), Valley Stream, New York, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Aug 24, 2007 16 ounce can in pint glass. Dark brown/black color with dense half inch lasting head and lace. Aroma of roasted chocolate and, surprisingly, apples. Flavors and texture of low fat chocolate milk with a touch of fruitiness like raisins. Creamy mouthfeel, very low carbonation, somewhat watery. There’s a reason they make it like this; so you can drink twenty-three of them in a night at the pub. jefe026 (37), USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 17, 2007 Murphy’s Irish Stout (16 oz. can) has the standard pitch black appearance. The head seems a little whiter than a Guinness’, but lasts just as long. The aroma was very roasted and nutty, but the taste seemed fairly milky to me. I guess that could be interpreted as "watered down," but I think it’s just the effect of the widget. The mouthfeel is only slightly creamy, not a thick as you’d expect from the look of the beer. At any rate, Murphy’s is incredibly easy to knock down, even if a little on the bland side.
