I don’t think it has as much flavour as a Guiness even, although people won’t admit it on this site. Not like a Beamish (by far), but heavier, smokier, and just lacks that certain taste or flavour (i.e. boring). OK, but I’ll take a Guinness or St. Peter’s Cream Ale (however not as much as the gold standard for stouts, Beamish). DruncanVeasey (2753), The Penguin’s Arms, Europe, Warwickshire, England

Or Belgian, to be precise. 500ml 4% can, widgetised and foaming. Pours pitch with a ludicrously thick yellowish head of foam. Aromas of charcoal, coffee and chocolate. Subtly toasty malt with a dusting of coffee. Some suggestions of blackberry-like fruit as it warms. Still and smooth. Drinks more like a roasty Mild or Schwarzbier than a full-bodied Stout. A bit lacking in the roast and body departments, but a surprisingly tasty beer I’d consider revisiting. ekstedt (2446), Göteborg, Sweden

Dark reddish brown, with a creamy and firm grayish beige head with good retention. Roasted, almost burnt, malt aroma, with strong coffee notes. Medium to heavy bodied. Dry and bitter finish. boFNjackson (1318), Portland, Oregon, USA

Really smooth palate, with flavors of chocolate, barley malt, and a bit of hops. Really nice. I’d recommend Youngs Double Chocolate over this if you can find it, or Samuel Smiths’ Stout. tkhans (50), Bangor, Wisconsin, USA

Basicly the same with the flavor. A touch of a twang. Thin but creamy mouthfeel. bardechh (8), USA does not count | 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jun 10, 2007 This beer tastes to me like a ferari drives. First off it looks like a million dollars, there is something almost sexy about the way that both guinness and murphys pour. You can smell the nice roasted malts almost as soon as it is put in front of you. The flavor is roasty and earthy and compley with a bit of sweetness that controlled by the bitterness of the hops. The thing I love the most about this beer is the clean way it finishs. In comparison to guinness it is much smoother. Definately a personal favorite. mikey (336), farmington, Utah, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 6, 2007 Poured an obsidian black with a tan, creamy nitro head that lasts forever. The nose was very heavy with roasted malt notes. The flavor was roasty, with some espesso, coffee and chocolate notes. Oatmeal smoothness removes the sharp bitterness you’d expect from the dark grains. The hop bitterness flavor hide just below the roastiness keeping the aftertaste from getting too sweet. Murphy’s and Guiness can always be found side by side at your local pub, so comparisons are enevitable. I think I like Murphy’s a little better, though I do enjoy Guinness a lot. For me, the roasted malts and the oats in Murphy’s seems to give this stout a fresh and mellow taste. Exellent!
