Murphys Irish Stout

On tap. Black with a creamy brown head that lasts through. Roasty aroma with coffee and cream. Roasted malt bitterness in the flavor. A bitter finish. Pretty watery mouthfeel.

On tap. Poured nearly black with a two-finger plus, creamy off-white head. Lacing that just won’t quit. Beautiful. Somewhat lacking in the nose and in terms of flavor. True to form for a draught dry stout. The roasted barley and chocolate malts were subdued to say the least. I thought it was a nice, medium bodied stout that didn’t try and get cute. Very drinkable. Enjoyed it probably a bit more than my score indicates, but with these dry stouts being so tame in terms of aroma and flavor it’s hard to bump them up much higher.

Bottle: pours 1/2 inch cream head, solid, well-retained. Aroma is dry,very vaguely sweet and roasted. Mouthfeel is full but unexciting. Flavor is absolutely constant from tip of tongue to back of throat--nice medium roasted, with little discernible hops character. Very smooth texture--fluffy-creamy but viscous enough to be substantive. A great everyday stout

One of my favorites from being stationed in England. A step up from Guiness stout. In a can, the widget gives it a good 1" thick head (in a pint glass) and a very attractive deep brown to black settling. A slight nut odor, and a very smooth taste without any bitterness. Again, a slight nut aftertaste that doesnt last long enough to get a good read on it. Highly reccomended if you have a choice between Guinness and Murphy’s.

Poured from a can. Nice head and poured dark black. Can taste the flavor of both coffee and chocolate.

Pours a solid black, with a nice cream colored foamy head. Superb thick lacing throughout the mug. Very faint roasted malt aroma. Mildy but prominent roasted malt, with a bit of sweetened coffee flavor to it. Very mellow smooth beer, perfect carbonation. There’s a hint of vanilla sweetness in the finish that I really like.

Head is huge and it pours chocolate and gets very dark. Aroma of roasted malts. For how thick this beer looks it’s surpsingly watery in its medium mouthfeel. Recipe is ok but freshness and vitality of this beer is very poor.

Toasted malt aroma. Dark brown/black with that tan draught style nitrogen head. Starts mildly sweet, moving to some toasted malt, but not burnt, moving on to light fruit hints. Chocolate and coffee are present. Very mild bitterness in the finish. Quite drinkable.
