DocHop (278), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Dec 9, 2008 Pours a dark rusty copper with a huge tan head. High carbonation and a great aroma of Belgian yeast, light cocoa and oak, along with some dark fruits and spices. Almost chocolaty sweetness at first that turns into an overripe fruit flavor ending with a slightly hoppy, dry finish. I think the flavor is a little dominated by the finish but overall it’s a very full bodied beer with a lot of good flavor. No taste of the 10% ABV. stankenk (130), Maplewood, Minnesota, USA Dec 6, 2008 2007 Edition. Pours dark brown with a thick off white head. Has a nose of yeast, fruit notes, and a touch of chocolate. Comes across the palate a tad on the overly carbonated side. Flavors of plums, yeast, and light spices, while the alcohol stays in the background. It has a mild finish, that doesnt linger too long. Overall a decent brew, quite balanced for a winter warmer I tend to think spicier.
AgentSteve (1334), SF Bay Area, California, USA Dec 6, 2008 Pours deep brown with some red on the highlights and a whisp of a tan head that lingers. The nose is spice, yeast, caramel, dried fruit and molasses, as is the flavor. Smooth on the palate and clean finish. heemer77 (4294), Savannah, Missouri, USA Dec 5, 2008 Hard to believe I had not tried this one before. From a 2007 bottle sampled in late 2008. The body was dark coppery brown with a light yellowish khaki head. The smell is herbal with some bread and wood. The taste has some herbal thyme and is dry. There is also some wood and orange peels. I was not a fan of this really dry number. Vas19 (293), Maryland, USA Dec 4, 2008 2007 edition. Pours dark brown with a thick off-white head. Aroma of bread, figs, and a touch of wine. Flavor is malty with a few vinous notes and finishes with a bunch of spice. A good beer overall, but the flavors arent quite as bold as I was hoping. nbutler11 (729), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Dec 3, 2008 Pours a light plum color from the bomber with a creamy off-white head and plenty of lacing. Loaded with chewey malts, pie spices, raisin, and a fair amount of alcohol. A great winter warmer. mgermani (862), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Dec 1, 2008 Pours a cloudy brown with a nice head. Aroma yeasty with fruity esters, chocolate and raw beef - some sort of a oily grain, bran or flax? Tastes of black forest cake, complete with cherries chocolate, and again that bran flavour. Carb & body ok/unremarkable. A bit cloudy, but overall quite enjoyable. Thanks to G for the taste! SuperDave70 (1157), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA Dec 1, 2008 Deep red-brown color pour with a lasting and lacy tan head. Big aroma of citrus, yeast, dark fruit, candy and some spice. Nice fruity flavor, with a malty and spicy finish. Smooth and creamy on the palate. Very nice!
