Drier compared to the McChouffe. Dried spices with a slightly citrusy finish. You feels just a touch of the 10% ABV on the finish.

Nice chouffe, comedy for a 14 year old kid. Which I had to say because I am one. Very impressed. A decent balance of flavours that were present without being dominating. And stronger than womens love for tissues. Pretty blood good i say.

bottle, brown with good head. Fruit, brown sugar, spice, plum. Good balance and finish. highly carbonated, hides the alcohol well.

2006 Vintage - What an amazingly simple, yet tasty beer. Okay, maybe simple is the right word. But it’s not barrel aged, or a "super premium" beer. Just a well made, highly enjoyable Belgian beer.

The beer pours out a dark, cloudy brownish/purple color with a nice two-finger thick light tan head. A mesmerizing aroma butter, plums and mashed raisins. Vanilla and overripe bananas also show up. Where’s the 10% alcohol? Mouthfeel is crazy smooth. None of that overly harsh carbonation I find in some Beligain beers. Smooth as silk here. Flavors are a tongue-warp to try and get them all. Dark fruits like dates, rasins and plums abound. Caramel, chocolate dipped oranges, oak and various spices play thru. Highly recommended.

Draught @ the Dilly Deli. Pours a rich dark brown with ruby highlights and a fine tan head. The aroma is caramel, spices, and sweet fruit. The flavor is again caramel, spices(maybe a hint of corriander), sweet fruit, brown sugar, and toffee. Thick and syrupy. Alcohol does make an appearance, but not in a bad way.

Bottle (2007). Dark reddish-brown with a huge beige head. Pleasant aroma of malt, yeast, spices, brown sugar and some fruits. Sweet flavor of malt, caramel, some yeast and spices. A drier finish with a slight alcohol burn. Alcohol is a bit too noticable. A medium to full body and a bit overcarbonated. A good beer.

Bottle: some yeasty sourness, very fruity, malty, some weak cherry and berries like notes, some dark fruits notes, some weak chocolaty notes, mild but persistent hoppiness all the way through, some caramel sweetness, full bodied, alcoholic bite but a nice one, a good example of a typical belgian ale.

Approx. 10 oz. pour on tap at Blue Nile in Minneapolis. Poured into a Maredsous glass. Sampled immediately prior to the Surly two release on 1-23-08. Yeasty, mostly clean but occasionally musty, strong aroma. Tobacco, banana, pear, celery, orange, and cardboard scents. The smell is complex, appetizing, and very nice. It is reminiscent of that of a dunkelweizen, believe it or not. Pours a hazy, medium brown with an orange/tan hue and a moderate amount of uneven, cream-colored head. Produces extensive lacing. Classic taste of a complex, strong, dark, Belgian ale. Raisin, coffee, dark chocolate, spice, bread, orange, and milk chocolate flavors. Candy and dark fruit sweetness. Tart, bitter, earthy finish. Hearty, dirt-bitter aftertaste. Thick, smooth, frothy, oily, and lively in the palate; satisfying. N’Ice Chouffe is a strong brew across the board and well worth a try.
