dwh50 (46), Clay, New York, USA Jun 11, 2007 This beer was the high point of my vacation in Illinois. Very dark brown with good lasting head. Malt and carmel with smooth finish. I do not know if it is available in Central New York, but you can be sure I’ll look for it. Bradrcr (778), Renton, Washington, USA May 28, 2007 On Draught at Brouwers in Seattle. Highly recommended, possibly the best beer I’ve had all year. Aroma is dried fruit forward, followed by sweet malt and an excellent floral hop boquet. Beer is a vary dark brown with a strong amber undertone, slightly hazy, with a good off-white head that leaves excellent belgian lace on the glass. Flavor is malt forward, lots of carmel, tons of dried dark fruit and low hoppiness. Flavors blend together excellently with this complexity, no clashing here. Body is moderate, as well as the carbonation and feel; great creamy finish. Overall, a very complex beer that should wow anyone. It’s hard to put this much into one bottle and not find something standing out too much to object to. Well made. Grovlam (3790), Copenhagen, Denmark May 21, 2007 Bottle. Huge fizzy beige head that lasted for a very long time. Excellent display of lacework. Somewhat clear and sparkling body with a mahogany color. Huge spicy and fruity notes. Cinnamon, caramel, mix of dark fruit, pepper like notes, almost soy sauce like, yeast. I just have that Christmas feel to it. Full bodied with an average carbonation and hint of alcoholic texture. Flavor was moderated sweet with light notes of bitterness. Finish was spicy sweet and somewhat liquorish lingering. Excellent Christmas beer. Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 16, 2007 The king of Chouffe. Light head on dark orange colour. Medium mouthfeel. Lace, some yeast, sugar. This is a controlled orange taste and spice beverage, worthy of the sip. Yes there could be thyme. 2006. smartlung (154), Valrico, Florida, USA May 16, 2007 bottle from World of Beer, Clearwater -
a reddish brown head - coriander, brown sugar, misc fruit, full of alcohol and goes down nice - very tasty
french tickler (642), Aylmer, Quebec, Canada May 14, 2007 Dark brown poor with a reddish hue. Nice frothy thick beige head. Aromas of sweet caramel, typical chouffe yeast, curacao and very herbal scents. Very "natural" beer. Very herbal bitterness... far from aggressive, very mellow. Very balanced mouthfeel, creamy, just enough sweetness to top it all off. Alcohol is present. Nice caramel like aftertaste with a dry finish. Very unique and natural, i love it! oberabcbbsok (686), Hoboken, Belgium May 11, 2007 Drunk it from bottle and on tap. A very nice christmas beer. Full bodied and very tastefull. Svesse (2597), Hässelby, Sweden May 5, 2007 (Bottle) This one seemed to be in a hurry, upon opening the foam exploded and parts of the beer ended up on my kitchen floor. Seriously annoying! So what about the beer that didn’t run away? Dark reddish brown colour with huge, but rather brief, beige head, leaving lots of lacing. Huge, fruity nose with dark fruit, orange, banana and a hint of ginger. Rather vinous. Malty, fruity, vinous taste with notes of chocolate, orange, yeast and herbs (spiced with thyme and curacao). Malty sweetness. Full body, smooth mouthfeel. Fiery and warming. Moderate hops, overshadowed by dark fruit, malt and herbs. Very nice beer (but beware when you open the bottle).
