Egon (392), Gothenburg, Sweden Dec 25, 2006 Bottle. Dark, hazy, brown with tan head that disappears quite fast. Sweet, candy like taste. Low bitterness, short after taste. More refreshing than most dark beers. Low alcohol taste for being so strong. Soft carbonation, thornecb (1735), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Dec 24, 2006 2002 Edition. Pours a very chunky chestnut brown from a careful pour into a tulip. Tan head quickly subsides to seim rim and surface. Caramel and alcohol aromas. Sweet and spicy (pepper, thyme - no hint of the corriander on the label). Dry, lasting aged-bitter finish. yespr (11613), Copenhagen O, Denmark Dec 22, 2006 75 cL bottle. Pours deep dark almost black. Brown head. Smell of malts and chocolate/coffee notes. Dark roasted taste, well balanced with alcohol well hidden. Very enjoyable beer for the evening. jonno (538), Brisbane, Australia Dec 21, 2006 Pours very dark, with a large head that dissipates quickly. Not a great deal of spice, but an enjoyable, thick dark Belgian ale taste Ibrew2or3 (2714), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Dec 20, 2006 0.75L. Poured brown with bits of sediment and tan head. The aroma has dark fruit, some sweet malts, a bit of spice, raisins, a wisp of chocolate and something vaguely citrus and sort of undefinable. Flavor is similar to the aroma with cherries, dates, plums, raisins, cinnamon, some subtle maltiness, a spice or two and silky chocolate. Nice dark fruit and chocolate after taste. No sense of the ABV. SHIG (2012), Aviano, Italy Dec 17, 2006 Bottle: Pored a dark black/brown with a tan brown head. Smell was that of sweet candy and caramel. The taste was a sweet sugary flavor. vyvvy (2023), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Dec 16, 2006 What a fine product those at Chouffe consistantly put out. Pours very dark brown / garnet with a large rocky tan head that had good lacing. The aroma has lots of spice, dark earthy malt, Belgium yeast and creamy sweetness. Medium / full body that is smooth and slick with a good amount of carbonation that starts of soft and ends sharp. The taste begins with full rich dark caramel malt with some gentle spices, light sweetness, some dark fruits and lots of Belgium earthy funk. The finish brings out lots of spiciness (hops?), then the thyme becomes apparent with some pepper aspects as well. Very enjoyable and it hides the 10% very well. gputty (456), Virgina Beach, Virginia, USA Dec 16, 2006 From capped 750. Pours a deep orange brown with tan head. Nose is light fruits, yeasty and lots of spices, some herbal. Flavor is more of the same. Lots to disect, but mostly herbal spices. Palate is highly carbonated. Pretty good, but a little odd.
