dirkules (613), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 6, 2005 Best chouffe yet! A bit brown with a nice syrupy sweet taste. Very easy to drink amidst the high abv but the belgians know how it’s done. Warming me up today like nothing else. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA Dec 3, 2005 dark brown pour - tan head. smells malty, sweet, caramel, fruity, etc. taste is identical, yet it is very light and pretty easy to drink despite the 10%. finish is nice and smooth , very easy drinking beer. something id like to age and see how it turns out in a few years. maniac (2628), Richmond, Virginia, USA Nov 30, 2005 Molasses aroma and taste. A brown color with a mostly diminishing off-white head. rickgordon (3285), Göteborg, Sweden Nov 30, 2005 75 cl Bottle.
Dark red-brown, not the greatest head. Tidbitty nose, along with dates, figs and almonds. Body is huge. Salty at first, then almond plays first violin. Very malty, with a dried fruit feel and in the finish the residulal sugars show off. bikesandbeers (468), Los Angeles, California, USA Nov 29, 2005 fresh 75cl bottle. Dark red-brown with a thin beige head. Spicy fruit aroma. Flavor is not too sweet and not to bitter. its dominated by the alcohol, but not in a bad way. feels suprisingly thin and sparkly for such a dark ale. Another quaity brew by the fine folks at Chouffe ukoolaid (572), Amherst, Massachusetts, USA Nov 28, 2005 On tap. Pours a very dark brown with thin tan head. Aroma is earthy, barnyard, spicy, with yeast. Taste is semi=sweet, semi-bitter, alcohol, orange peel, spices. This is an excellent winter ale. I remember liking this in the bottle, but this batch on tap at Anam Cara is excellent. hammenlind (738), Sundbyberg, Sweden Nov 28, 2005 Amber coloured, thick beige head. Fruity, spicy clove nose. Fruity, full bodied flavour with some hints of peach and mandarine. MrWalker (927), Stockholm, Sweden Nov 25, 2005 Bottle 75cl BB end 2009 Surprisingly dusty aroma. Some fresh dark fruits comes through together with an undefined spicy character. Someone wrote about thyme, and I can agree with that. Sparkling palate almost as if they’ve used champagne yeast or something similar. Very rich spicy taste full of alcohol. Schnapps warning! Uncharacteristicly unsweet for beer of this strength and recent vintage. Makes me almost suspect a relabel of an old vintage... Ginger, thyme and other spices are present in the alcohol infested beverage. Hard to decide if this is a good one or OTT. After warming up a bit a distinctive worn leather taste appears and the sweetness develops a bit. A big Belgian beer in a big bottle that developes over time. Must be a good thing.
