willblake (2160), Belcamp, Maryland, USA Mar 15, 2005 03.15.05 2003 750ml bottle. Pretty cherry brown with voluminous tan head. Buttery and vanilla aromas envelop my head, some savory spice, no alcohol. Flavors are sweet and light for such a big beer. I’m almost taken back to a great tripel with this beer’s thoughtful tropical flavors, pineapple, mango, guava, but not big fresh fruits, more like slightly cooked fruits in a light pear syrup. Also curacao, toasty coconut, soem toffee. Dark malts carry the way with underlying hints of cellar, burlap, earth, and mild pepper. Wonderful silky texture with plenty of eff. This beer is complex, subtle, powerful, and delicious. mustang3 (254), Whitby, Canada Mar 15, 2005 The bottle pours out a mahogany liquid with a quickly dissipating head. The nose is floral and spicy. Flavours of plum and dark fruits with spices. Delicous. JadoreBlanche (114), London, Ontario, Canada Mar 10, 2005 Thanks Kevin!Dark brown in colour, orange hues. Thin beige head. Aromas are malt, wine, sweet candy, slight boozeiness. Taste is malt, sugar. Alcohol. Alight burn in throat that lasts a while.
Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA Mar 10, 2005 Bottle. Large beige head. Dark amber body. Malty nose. taste is alot of sugar and alcohol, sweet, candi sugar, metal, tannins, with a huge tannic bitterness on the back end. Hints of orange, black pepper, and anise. I really don’t know what else to say about this one. It is alittle too sweet and very complex. MrManning (1634), London, Ontario, Canada Mar 9, 2005 Bug thanks goes out to MUSTANG3 for sharing this baby! Pours a dark brown body, with a thin beige head atop. Slight alcohol aroma, cognac?? Vinous, prunes and pears, roasted malts and sugars. Taste is malty, floral, fruity (pears and prunes), sweet too. Finish is mildly alcohol, with a sweet prune aftertaste. Nice! Thanks kevin! Kevin (1917), Colorado, USA Mar 9, 2005 pours deep brown with an extremely large light tan head. doughy raisin nose with some kind of nutmeg like spice. sweet and thick with flavors. i can detect banana bread, peppery yeast, and cloves, plus an odd grapefruity note in the finish. not hop grapefruit, but something different. enjoyable overall. This one was better than most. I’m rating one I had a couple years back and have one on hand here, a ’97. But, I don’t know why I’m keeping it. Maybe hoping that age will turn silver into gold. Doubt it tho.
Now you take the Chouffe Coffee Liquer and mmmmm, mmm!
