Barrios (852), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Apr 12, 2009 Bottle pours a light tan head and a brown body with ruby highlights. Aroma is brown sugar and thyme. Poured fiery reddish-orange wih a coating, well-retained cap of tan head. The aroma picked up dark fruits and dry banana bread with peppery spices, orange peel, and green herbs around.. thick yeasty impression with lesser spice on the back of the nose.. very good! The flavor had a soft bready and dark fruity base surrounded by a great array of spices and heavy yeast.. orange peel, cardamom, cinnamon, and white pepper came to mind.. more fruit and dry spice on the finish. Medium-bodied with moderate-to-high carbonation on the palate.. building warmth that extended to the belly well after the finish.. balance was good, and the mild oxidation really didn’t have a negative effect. Good stuff! Beershine (2677), Hue, Vietnam Mar 31, 2009 750 bottle. Pours thick reddish brown with tan head, looked murky but clarifies quickly. Sweet pruny and date sugar aromas, lots of dried fruits and candied orange peels. Nice body, not too carbonated, not too thick. Great sweetness. Not sugary at all. Naturally fruity and mild, well-integrated sugars backed by lots of malt. The spices and herbs linger in the background adding depth and cutting the sweetness. Gets hotter as it warms...more alcoholic, that is. It’s nice, there is something to be said for its relative simplicity. JohnnyJ (1282), Carlsbad, California, USA Mar 30, 2009 On tap at PP Carlsbad. Brown pour. Dark fruit, plum, spice, brown sugar. Pretty easy to drink, but not to complex. Meh, it’s alright. EHopper (274), Minnesota, USA Mar 28, 2009 Nice, dark carmel color with tan head. Lot’s of banana and malt aroma. Very engaging flavor. Sweets malt and dry hops. Simple, but full and smooth. Has series overtones of rootbeer and old time ginger flavor hard candy. hobbersr (393), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada Mar 21, 2009 Pours a hazy reddish brown with a nice tan coloured head. Aroma is of plums, raisins, citrus (specificially oranges) bubble gum, fruit punch, spice, yeast, and a little chocolate. Tastes very bright and fresh for a dunkle beer. Tastes like plums, oranges and fruit punch with spices. The best part of this beer is the fantastic mouthfeel. Fantastic beer!
