Pours a deep walnut brown with a nice head. Lots of floating chunks rather than a pleasant haze, but I guess that’s okay. Aroma is rich and malty, with a strong Belgian estery fruitiness. Flavor is sweet and full, like a dessert wine or a cream sherry. Definitely a sipping beer and not something I can drink more than one of.... but perfect for a chilly winter night after a nice dinner.

1/12/08: Re-rate. Draught at Blue Nile, Minneapolis. Virtually identical rating as the one I did 3 years ago. Aroma was docked 1 point. Dusty and yeasty aroma. Huge! tan head. Had to wait to drink it. Dark, murky body. Decent lace. Very sweet and very good. Not too strong. Distinctive flavoring. Not too heavy. I prefer this slightly to the Bell’s Old Coast b-wine I had just before it. That’s saying something. A very nice brew. 1/23/05: A very rich, sweet and malty nose. Lots of visible particalia. No visible carbonation. A still brew. Nice rich, dark amber color. Highly carbonated. Ar 8, Ap 5, Fl 8, Pal 5, Ov 17

It’s got that nice belgian-y fruit aroma with a hint of spices. I could see some plum or maybe dates in the taste, and other fruits, some spices as well. The palate was nice, soft but rich.

750 ml bottle, Habersham Beverage Warehouse, Savannah, Ga. Pours a chestnut brown with a frothy, medium thick khaki colored pour. Aroma has sweet baked bread notes to it with a proncounced fruitiness - dates most likely. Flavor has some baked brown bread notes with some brown sugar, dates and a little bit of port in there. Decent, thick mouthfeel, and the 10%ABV is hidden rather well. An excellent winter warmer.

Intense multilayered aroma; yeasty, sweet, musty, spicy. Deep ruby color, thick lasting fluffy head, nice looking. Has a spicy yeast flavor…also sweet, very rich. Finish is unexpectedly dry. Medium bodied, slightly warming. Yum.

Pours a nice deep red, with a great, billowing head on top. Aroma is sweet and malty, with lots of spice. Apples, pears, clove, abd hop "pepperiness" are all present. Flavor is strong and dry, a very woody character finds its way into the mix, ABV balances nicely with flavor, no harshness. Very complex, yet mellow. Seth likes!

Cola coloured body with some tawny tinges. Light tan, large and mainly lasting head that left great lacing. Cinnamon and dull spice on the nose. Smooth taste that grew in richness as the beer warmed, alcohol was well hidden until I tried to drive home, roasted/burnt characters as well caramel and malt. Lively carbonation and a fairly long finish.
