Roasty dark chocolate aroma that is sweet and fruity. Opaque black-brown with an off-white ring. Plenty of chocolate malt in the flavour that is nutty, creamy, and velvety. A nice helping of floral hops in the background. Sweet, but ending with a pleasant dark malt bitterness. Warming, slightly bitter finish, moderate carbonation. faroeviking (4414), Faroese Autonomous Beer Republic, Denmark Oct 9, 2008 Druaght. Pitch black colour. Very pleasanr roasty chocolate dark fruity aroma. Flavour of roasted malt with liquor and some liquorice along with dark fruits, bitter hops and chocolate. Dry roasty long lasting finish. Great brew indeed. MiP (6029), Flensburg, Germany Sep 21, 2008 Draught, 7.2% at EBF08. Weak roasted aroma. Sweet flavour, quite creamy, fruity, mild sweet liquorice notes. Not much aroma. Soft malty burnt body. Doesn’t seem like 7.2%. Certainly quite drinkable, but I don’t know quite why this one didn’t quite do it for me. I normally like this style a lot, should rerate. thewolf (3978), Kolding, Denmark Sep 20, 2008 Tap @ EBF, 2008, Carlsberg.<br />
Pours a great, translucent, red-black with a small ring of foam. Aroma is sweet, roasted, chocolate and a light hops note - flowery. High carbonation, lively, but not even remotely too much. Flavour is immensely drinkable, warming, chocolate, soft roastiness and a pleasant hoppy finish. Just warming, but I never feel the alcochol. Stunningly balanced - probably the beer from the entire festival that I could keep drinking as a session beer.
