liinis (473), Finland Jun 18, 2008 dark brown with medium beige head. liquorice aroma and flavor. nicely hoppy and malty. mouthfeel is bit too champagne-like bubbly or fizzy. quite watery too. dark chocolate.
garza (87), Caracas, Venezuela Oct 5, 2008 A nice aroma of chocolate in this brown dark colour beer. Strong flavor with chocolate and slightly bitterness ending. The palate stays for a long time. Very good. Ifyouinsist (6), , Devon, England does not count Sep 30, 2008 Very dark, with a pleasing rich Merlot colour against the light, with the patina of ancient polished oak. Not as caramelly as some browns, but with a slight soapiness, which is odd. Pleasant enough. Slips down. robinvboyer (1048), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Sep 26, 2008 great brown pour, almost black actually. aroma is bit on roasted malt, and next to no hops, with a touch of ripe fruit. flavour is again very very roasty, i guess im used to the american brown ales that are big time front loaded with hops. This brown ale is excellent, but there are hardly any hops, and to be honest seems more like a porter to me. Big roasty notes, and some chocolate, and coffee in the finish with a nice bitterness. Trev (540), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA Sep 26, 2008 Pours a hazy brown with a tight medium tan head.
Aroma is nice chocolate and roast malt tones. Slight fruity-herbal hop.
Flavour is very drinkable smooth nutty chocolate. Subtle lingering bitterness. Very well made. A little thin in the body but not enough to detract from the brew in my opinion. faroeviking (4387), Faroese Autonomous Beer Republic, Denmark Sep 20, 2008 Botella. Mis gracias al señor de Noruega. Hazy red-brown colour with a medium fairly well lasting head. Dark fruity chocolate roasty aroma. Flavour of softly roasty malt, chocolate and a slight sourness. Minor infection there but still a good brew.
