RblWthACoz (959), Brooklyn, New York, USA Feb 12, 2008 Pours midnight black with a tan head that isn’t very large and forms off a very firm pour. The nose is heavy. Almsot like burnt wood with a bit of molasses mixed in. Just extremely robust and thick. Flavor is super smoke! Sheesh. Kind of like I swallowed a log used to cook some kind of intense BBQ. Whew. Feels almost thick enough to chew on wih a decent carbonation. Nice to drink. A winter sipper for sure. That smokey and molasses tone is fairly noticeable. Be prepared.
Hophead22 (47), Redlands, California, USA Jul 3, 2008 Smelled very good when first poured. Tasted a bit thin in my opinion, needs to be a bit more imperial. Not too bad though. kragelund (4), , Denmark does not count Jul 3, 2008 (Bottle) age about 1 year. Pours black with a nice lasting brown head. Aroma of dark malts and a hint of alcohol. Flavour is burnt coffee and chocolate but with a very smooth overall impression ending in a roasty bitterness. Alcohol is well hidden and drinkability is high. aracauna (2188), Georgia, USA Jul 2, 2008 Pretty much black. although brown and ruby peaks around the edges. Nice rich aroma with soy sauce, raisins and brown sugar. The flavor is satisfying. Rich enough to sate the need for maltiness in an imperial stout, but not so rich as to be choking or making drinking difficult. Nice balancing of the robustness required for the style and the drinkability needed for a good beer. LilBeerDoctor (242), East Setauket, New York, USA Jul 2, 2008 Bottle. Pours an inky, sticky black with a very small dark brown head that dissipated quickly. Aroma is delicious! Rich sweet roasted malt, chocolate. Flavor of bitter hops, the same sweet roasted malt and chocolate, dark fruits. Rich and creamy palate. The flavor is not as glorious as the aroma, but it was still quite delectable. The 9% hardly hits you. A little more bitter than other imperial stouts, which personally detracted me just slightly from the beer. Still, one of the top notch imperial stouts. bluemeow76 (685), Lewis Center, Ohio, USA Jun 28, 2008 From our recent stout tasting (as mentioned in Dogbrick’s descrip. see below) It pours dark... I’m not sure about a sharks eye though - maybe an alien’s eye. They always look so black and scary. Anyway - it’s good! Really good! It gets harder to compare after your 15th stout, but this was one of the stand-outs. Nice smooth flavor combinations.
