heemer77 (3647), Savannah, Missouri, USA Jul 24, 2007 I have a winner for rating #2800. From a bottle, new arrival at John’s Grocery. The body is very dark brown, near black with traces or garnet at the edges when held to light. The head is long lasting and medium khaki colored. The aroma is rich roasted coffee with some good hot chocolate. There is also a hint of fresh peas. The taste is lightly roasted almonds with some espresso in the finish. There is a little bit of bread crust and even some tangerines in the finish. The body is relatively thin and smooth. Everything I look for in a porter. This is a great beer, not just an amazing porter.
tripelthreat (14), Soquel, California, USA Aug 28, 2008 Small head on a black body. Plums and cocoa aroma. Roasty espresso, cocoa, bitter chocolate with light milky sugary sweetness. Medium body. Enjoyable. Borresteijn (509), Amstelveen, Netherlands Aug 26, 2008 Bottle from Cracked Kettle. Dark brown/black colour, beige head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and roasted malts, a bit musty. Flavour is bitter, roasted malts and strong coffee, some dark chocolate, slight sweetness. OK porter, but expected a bit more. SQNfan (436), Wheaton, Illinois, USA Aug 22, 2008 Deep brown in color with a moderate head. The nose shows hoppy aromas of chocolate and coffee beans. In the mouth it is on the hoppy side which comes off as light-on-its-feet. I would prefer a bit more mid-palate concentration and flavor but this is well made and balanced. 1_2many (220), Ohio, USA Aug 19, 2008 Bottle. Pretty much black with a decent brown head although without much lacing. Aroma is dark roasty malt, chocolate, and coffee. Lovely mild sweetness and goes down very smooth with a slightly dry aftertaste. Very good. 17thfloor (641), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 18, 2008 Pours a murky dark espresso brown with a lovely light creamy tan head. Sweet molasses aroma, bakers chocolate and lots of fresh hops. Rich chocolate, condensed milk, floral hops, a bit vinous and nutty, light coffee and molasses, complex and definitely Nogne. Medium/light body with silky tingling carbonation. Easy drinking Porter that could easily be a Brown Ale. Really a well done brew.
