RblWthACoz (959), Brooklyn, New York, USA Feb 28, 2008 Ah hah! So that’s how it’s pronounced! "NUHN-ye"
Pours a clouded orange with basically no head. Nose is citrus and minor funk, but the citrus reigns supreme here. Flavor is inky. I know I have used the term before, but this tops all others. Calms a bit over time, or maybe I am just used to it. So we’re definitely on a more robust edge here with some grass mixed in as well. Hearty. Feel is about standard. The usual slightly thin liquid touch and lower carbonation. This is a decent saison. I wouldn’t really compare it to Fantome or any other of my favorites, but it will do.
NobleSquirrel (644), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 25, 2008 Bottle from Sam’s Clybourn. This pours a yellowy gold, a bit hazy. Nose has minimal spice, more of a skunky Belgian character. bit of head, nothing special. On the taste, it is very light body and drinkable, though not really that tasty. A little spice comes from the yeast, but not much removed from a generic ’Belgium’ (sic) ale. Meh. mybestfriend (241), Gothenburg, Sweden Jul 21, 2008 Bottle. Pours a quite dark yellow colour with a white head. The aroma is a bit spicy with notes of sourish citrus fruits, some perfumy yeast and a hint of caramel. The flavour begins with notes of bitter herbs which is followed by orange, spices, yeast and wheat. Quite smooth mouthfeel. The bitter herbs lingers in the mouth for quite a while. golubj (945), Redwood City, California, USA Jul 17, 2008 Bottle. Straw yellow, hazy blond pour with a little white head. Aroma has light citrus, some pale belgian malt, a little bit of earthy spicing. Flavor is the same, pleasant at first, but the spices leave a somewhat odd aftertaste. undsioux7 (462), Cologne, Minnesota, USA Jul 11, 2008 Pours cloudy yellow with a white head that dissapates to a small ring. Nice aroma of wheat, citris, grass, and lemon. The taste is the same with some pepper and a bit of sweetness. A little thicker then I like and more toward a wit, then farmhouse funk saison, but not bad. hotstuff (3018), Indiana, USA Jul 11, 2008 Bottle. Small white head that mostly diminished, spotty amounts of lacing, cloudy, visible carbonation, and a golden hue. The aroma was malt, hops, some spicy notes, lightly peppery, yeasty, and citrus fruits. Ditto for the flavor. The mouthfeel was sprite and this beer is medium in body. Quaffable, decent for the style but there are better of this style to be had IMO. Not a lot of character with this beer and while it is not a bad beer by any means, it did not leave me wanting to seek this one out again. Worthy of a try.
